Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallCrashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteYou can set a custom ringtone on a Samsung Galaxy by choosing a sound file stored on your phone: open Settings > Sounds and vibration > Ringtone, tap Add, select the file, and tap Done. Samsung’s picker does not use tracks that are available only through streaming services; the audio must be downloaded and stored locally.
Before you start: make sure the audio file is on your phone
Samsung Support says a ringtone must be a physical audio file downloaded to the device. A song available only inside Spotify or another streaming service cannot be selected through Samsung’s documented custom-ringtone workflow. If the file is on a computer or another device, transfer or download it to the Galaxy phone first.
The exact screens and labels can differ by Galaxy model, software version, and carrier. Samsung’s instructions below describe the standard US path.
Set a song or sound file as your ringtone
-
Open Settings > Sounds and vibration > Ringtone.
-
Tap Add or the plus icon. If prompted, allow the picker to access audio files.

Samsung UK describes this folder-based workaround. For a message alert rather than an incoming-call ringtone, use the Notifications folder; notification sounds are configured separately from call ringtones. See Samsung UK’s file-placement instructions.
Check the format and local copy
Confirm the file is actually stored on the phone and can be opened there. Samsung US lists MP3, M4A, MP4, 3GP, 3GA, OGG, OGA, AAC, and FLAC as music formats supported for Galaxy device recognition. That is a device-level recognition list, not a guarantee that every format will appear in the ringtone picker on every model. Samsung India separately lists MP3, WAV, AAC, and MP4 for custom ringtones. Because the regional pages differ in scope, MP3 is the safest shared choice; treat other formats as dependent on the device and software. Choose between the full track and a shorter clip
| Approach | What it does | Best when |
|---|---|---|
| Use Samsung’s ringtone picker | Select the local file; leave highlights off to play from the beginning, or enable highlights to play Samsung’s selected portions. | You are happy with the track as presented and want to avoid installing an editor. |
| Prepare a shorter clip before selecting it | Use an audio editor on the phone or a computer to create a separate, shorter audio file, then choose that file in the ringtone picker. | You need a particular segment rather than Samsung’s selected highlights. |
Galaxy Store listings show apps marketed for ringtone creation and audio cutting, but their listing does not establish that a particular app is independently tested or the best option: Ringtone maker & Audio Cutter and Music Editor: Trim Cutter Merge Convert Audio and Ringtone Maker. For a computer-based workflow, Audacity’s manual explains ringtone creation; its FAQ says Audacity has no mobile version.
Give one contact a different ringtone
On supported devices, open Contacts, select the contact, tap More > Change ringtone/vibration > Ringtone, choose a sound, and save. Samsung says a custom ringtone cannot be assigned to a contact stored only on the SIM card. Menu details can vary by device. See Samsung US Support’s contact ringtone instructions.
