To show a clock when your Roku is idle, install a clock-themed screensaver if you do not already have one, then select it as the active screensaver. On most Roku devices, start at Home > Settings > Theme > Screensavers.
Set a clock screensaver on your Roku
- Press Home on your Roku remote.
- Open Settings, then select Theme and Screensavers. This is the menu path in Roku’s U.S. support instructions. If your device shows a screensaver option directly under Settings, use that instead.
- Check My screensavers for a clock option that is already installed. If you do not see one, browse the available screensavers or open the Streaming Store and search for clock.
- Choose a listing and review its details. If the store offers a preview or screenshots, use them to check the clock’s appearance. Select the install or purchase option shown for that listing; screensavers may be free or paid.
- After installation, select Set as screensaver or the equivalent confirmation shown on your Roku. Installing an app alone may not make it the active screensaver.
Which clock screensaver can I get?
Roku’s Streaming Store currently lists Matrix Clock Screensaver from Smart Apps. Its description says it includes a clock and date in a Matrix-inspired design. Check the listing on your own Roku for its current price and compatibility; availability can vary by device or region.
Roku says screensaver defaults can change and that different screensavers may run on select devices. If a clock listing does not appear, search the store on the Roku you use rather than assuming it is available on every model.
Clock format setting versus clock screensaver
Roku’s interface-personalization guidance mentions changing the format of the clock shown in the interface. That is separate from choosing what appears when the device is idle. To put a clock on the idle screen, select an actual clock-themed screensaver.

Change the screensaver start time
In the Theme or Screensaver settings, adjust Screensaver wait time to control how long your Roku waits before starting the screensaver. You can also disable the screensaver from those settings.
If the clock screensaver is missing
- Check My screensavers to see whether the clock option is already installed.
- Search the available store listings for clock on the Roku itself. Catalog availability can vary, and listings may change.
- Confirm that you completed the selection step after installing the app. Return to the screensaver menu and set it as active.
- Check the listing’s current compatibility and price on your device; do not assume details from another Roku model or region apply to yours.
You can navigate and confirm these choices with the Roku remote; no additional accessory is needed.
