In New Outlook for Windows, select New > Mail or press Ctrl+N to compose a message, then select Send. To check for new mail, select Mail > View > Sync or press F9; the classic Outlook Send/Receive tab is not used in New Outlook.
If messages are not moving, check your connection and sync status, verify the sending account, and consider Microsoft cloud storage, attachment size limits, or provider sign-in requirements.
Send an email in New Outlook
- Select New > Mail on the ribbon, or press Ctrl+N.
- Enter recipients in To, Cc, or Bcc. To show Bcc if it is hidden, select Options > Show Fields > Bcc.
- Enter a subject and write your message.
- To attach a file, select Insert > Attach File. To attach an Outlook item, such as a message, contact, task, or calendar item, select Insert > Outlook Item.
- If you have more than one account, check From and select the account you want to send from. If From is hidden, select Options > Show From.
- Select Send.
The Send button may not appear until an email account is configured. New Outlook supports Microsoft accounts such as Outlook.com and Hotmail, organizational work or school accounts, and third-party accounts including Gmail, Yahoo, and iCloud. Third-party accounts can connect through IMAP.
Choose the From account
For a new message, Outlook uses the default account unless you choose another account in From. Replies and forwards use the account that received the original message. If you have only one email account in your profile, From may not be shown.

Receive or check for new email
New Outlook checks for mail when it starts and at automatic intervals. To check manually, select Mail, then View > Sync, or press F9. A status message appears at the bottom of the message list while Outlook syncs.
The classic Outlook Send/Receive tab and its commands belong to a different interface. In New Outlook, use Sync. Manual Sync behavior can vary for third-party accounts, so follow the provider-specific guidance if a connected account does not respond as expected.

Fix common sending and receiving problems
- Check your internet connection. Confirm the computer is online, then run View > Sync and watch for the sync status message.
- Verify the sender. When composing a new message with multiple accounts, check that From shows the intended account.
- Check Microsoft cloud storage. Microsoft says full cloud storage can prevent sending or receiving email.
- Consider attachment size. An attachment may exceed the recipient provider’s limit. A large message can block that message and messages queued after it, so try reducing or removing the attachment.
- Follow third-party sign-in guidance. If Outlook requests an app password or another authentication step, follow the email provider’s instructions. Requirements vary by provider.
Shared mailbox synchronization
In New Outlook, incoming messages in the Inbox of a shared mailbox added through automapping do not automatically synchronize. Select View > Sync or select the shared-mailbox folder to update it. Microsoft suggests adding the shared mailbox as an account if automatic synchronization and notifications are needed.

How do I send an email in New Outlook?

How do I receive or check for new email in New Outlook?
Select Mail > View > Sync or press F9. New Outlook also checks for mail at startup and at automatic intervals.
Where is Send/Receive in New Outlook?
New Outlook replaces the classic Outlook Send/Receive tab with View > Sync. The classic tab’s instructions do not apply to the new interface.

Why is Outlook not sending or receiving messages?
Check your internet connection and sync status, verify the sender account, and check whether Microsoft cloud storage is full or an attachment exceeds the recipient provider’s size limit. For a third-party account, follow its authentication guidance.
How do I change the From account?
On a new message, select the account in From. If the field is hidden, select Options > Show From. New messages otherwise use the default account; replies and forwards use the account that received the original.

Why is my shared mailbox not receiving new messages automatically?
Incoming mail in the Inbox of a shared mailbox added through automapping does not automatically synchronize in New Outlook. Select View > Sync or the folder, or add the mailbox as an account if your organization permits it and automatic synchronization is needed.
