Google Messages for web is the simplest way to send and receive Android texts from a Windows PC without installing a separate Windows messaging app. Pair your phone with the web app using the same Google Account, then keep both devices connected to the internet. The service itself is free to use, but your carrier may charge for texts and mobile data.
What you need
- An Android phone running Android 5.0 or later, with the latest Google Messages app installed.
- A Google Account used with Google Messages on the phone.
- An internet connection on both the phone and PC. Google Messages for web supports Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Microsoft Edge; Internet Explorer is not supported.
Google Messages for web displays conversations from the phone’s Messages app and sends SMS through a connection between the computer and phone. The phone therefore needs to remain connected. Carrier messaging fees may apply, and using mobile data can incur data charges; connect the phone to Wi-Fi to avoid using its mobile data. Set up Google Messages on your Windows PC
- On the Android phone, open the Google Messages app and choose its account or device-pairing option.
- On the PC, open Google Messages for web in a supported browser and sign in with the same Google Account used on the phone.
- Follow the pairing prompt shown on the phone and PC, then wait for your conversations to load.
Google’s current instructions use Google Account pairing. In the United States, QR-code pairing is no longer available, so use the account-based prompt rather than an older QR-only setup guide. Google does not state when this change took effect. The current steps are described in Google’s computer-pairing instructions and Android Help.
Use Messages from the PC
Once paired, select a conversation to read or reply, or start a new message from the web page. Your texts are sent through the phone’s Google Messages connection; this is not a separate PC texting number or a way to avoid carrier charges. Google says conversation threads, contacts, and settings are encrypted and cached in the browser. Multiple devices can be paired, but only one computer can be active at a time. Inactive pairings may be removed automatically after a few weeks.

Unpair on a shared or public computer
When you finish on a computer other people can access, remove its pairing so the browser session cannot continue displaying your messages.
- In Google Messages for web, open the menu and choose Unpair.
- Alternatively, on the phone open Google Messages, go to Device pairing, and remove that computer or choose the option to unpair all computers.

If pairing or messages stop working
- Check connectivity: Confirm the phone and PC both have internet access, then verify that the computer is still paired.
- Check phone settings: Allow Google Messages to use background data and review whether battery optimization is restricting it.
- Check the browser connection: Temporarily disable a VPN or extensions that may interfere, then retry.
- After switching or resetting phones: Remove the old pairing and pair the new phone.
