Send the message separately to each contact

Open Messages and open the conversation with the first person. If there is no conversation yet, tap Compose, enter that person’s name or number, and select the contact.

Type your message and send it.

Repeat in a separate conversation for each other contact.
This creates individual conversations rather than one thread shared with multiple recipients. Apple’s button labels and their placement may vary across iOS releases, so use the current Messages interface on your iPhone.

Why adding several recipients creates a group conversation
When you compose a message and enter more than one recipient, Messages starts a group conversation. The type of group message depends on settings, network connection, and carrier plan. A group with iMessage enabled for all participants uses iMessage; if one or more people do not use iMessage, the message may use SMS or MMS, and RCS may also be available on iOS 18 or later where supported. Group iMessage appears blue; group SMS, MMS, and RCS appear green. See Apple’s guide to sending group messages for the current instructions and details.
A group SMS reply is not the same as sending separately
Apple notes that replies to a group SMS are delivered individually, and recipients cannot see one another’s responses. That describes how replies work in that kind of group conversation; it does not change the original message into separate one-to-one sends. To keep your outgoing message in individual conversations, send it separately to each person.

Can Shortcuts send the message separately to a list?
Shortcuts includes a Repeat with Each action that runs actions once for each item in a list, so it may be possible to build a workflow around a contact list. Apple’s documentation explains the repeat action, but does not establish that a message action inside such a loop will send directly to every contact without opening a compose sheet, asking for confirmation, or requiring permission. Create or select a list of contacts in a shortcut.

Add Repeat with Each, then place the message-sending action inside the repeat block.

If the action allows it, use the current repeat item as that iteration’s recipient.

Test with a small, suitable set of contacts. Check whether the shortcut asks you to confirm, displays a compose sheet, or requests permission before relying on it.
This is a possible workflow outline, not a guaranteed hands-free method. If you need predictable one-to-one threads, send from each conversation individually.
