To select a device in Puppeteer, start page.waitForDevicePrompt() before triggering the page’s device request, find the intended device with prompt.waitForDevice(predicate), then pass the returned device object to prompt.select(device). The wait must be armed first: it does not return a prompt that is already active.
Use the request prompt to select a live device
DeviceRequestPrompt lets a Puppeteer script respond when a page requests a device through a browser API such as Web Bluetooth. Its devices property exposes the selectable devices in the prompt. To choose one, wait for the prompt, identify a matching device, and select that device object.
- Start
waitForDevicePrompt()before the page action that triggers the device request. - Call
waitForDevice()with a predicate that matches the intended device. - Pass the returned device object to
select().
Complete example
This example assumes the page has a button with the selector #connect-bluetooth that triggers a device request. Replace the selector and matching rule with ones appropriate to your page and test environment.
const [devicePrompt] = await Promise.all([
page.waitForDevicePrompt(),
page.click('#connect-bluetooth'),
]);
const device = await devicePrompt.waitForDevice(({ name }) =>
name.includes('My Device'),
);
await devicePrompt.select(device);
Promise.all starts waiting for the prompt and performs the triggering click together. This avoids waiting until after the click, when the prompt may already be active and therefore missed. The official Puppeteer example uses this same event order.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Choose a predicate that identifies the right device
waitForDevice(filter) resolves to the first device matching the predicate. A name substring is convenient, as in the example, but it may match more than one device if names are not unique. Make the predicate specific enough for your test, using the properties available on the device object and the distinctions that matter in your environment. Puppeteer’s API guidance does not prescribe one universal identity rule.
The important handoff is an object, not a string: pass the device returned by waitForDevice() to select(). Do not pass only its name.

Cancel a prompt when you do not want to select a device
Use devicePrompt.cancel() to cancel the prompt. The class reference documents cancellation, but does not establish a detailed result flow for every cancellation case. Check the API reference and types for the Puppeteer version installed in your project if your test needs to assert a particular outcome.
Device selection is not device emulation
DeviceRequestPrompt handles a live request from a page and selects one of the devices available in that prompt. Puppeteer’s KnownDevices list and Page.emulate() serve a different purpose: they apply a predefined device profile to emulate device metrics and a user agent.

| Task | Input | Puppeteer API |
|---|---|---|
| Respond to a page’s live device request | A device object from the prompt’s selectable devices | Page.waitForDevicePrompt(), then waitForDevice() and select() |
| Emulate a device profile | A predefined profile such as one in KnownDevices |
Page.emulate(KnownDevices[...]) |
Use the prompt flow when the page itself requests a device. Use emulation when you want to test how a page behaves under a device profile; emulation does not select a live device from a request prompt.
Version and timeout considerations
The Puppeteer API pages surfaced for this workflow span versions: the class overview is labeled 25.12.0, the waitForDevice() page 25.2.1, and the timing guidance for Page.waitForDevicePrompt() appears in the next-version documentation. Verify the reference and type definitions for the release you have installed before relying on version-specific details.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
waitForDevice() accepts optional wait-timeout options, but the API material cited here does not establish a timeout default or the precise rejection behavior when no device matches. Consult the documentation or types for your installed version if your test depends on either detail.
Troubleshooting
- The script never receives a prompt: Confirm that
waitForDevicePrompt()is started before the click or other action that triggers the request. It does not return a prompt that is already active. - No device matches: Check that the page actually raised a device request and that the predicate matches the names or other properties exposed in your test environment. The method resolves to the first matching device, so an overly narrow predicate may not match.
- The selection call receives the wrong value: Pass the device object returned by
waitForDevice()toselect(), rather than passing a name string. - You meant to simulate a phone or tablet: Use
KnownDeviceswithPage.emulate()for device metrics and user-agent emulation; that is separate from responding to a live request.
Or skip the browser setup
