Windows 11 has two separate places for Xbox clips:
- Clips recorded on an Xbox console: view them in the Windows Xbox app, provided they have uploaded and both devices use the same Microsoft account.
- Clips recorded on the Windows 11 PC: view them through Xbox Game Bar or open the local
VideosCapturesfolder.
These libraries are not automatically combined. A clip recorded with Game Bar on the PC is normally a local video file, not an item in the Xbox app’s cloud capture library.
View Xbox console clips on Windows 11
Use the Xbox app when the clip was recorded on an Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One console.
- Open the Xbox app in Windows 11. If it is not installed, install or update it through the Microsoft Store.
- Select your gamertag or profile picture in the app.
- Select Captures.
The Captures area displays screenshots and game clips associated with the Microsoft/Xbox account currently signed in to the app. From there, you can select a clip to watch or use the available sharing and saving options.
Check the account if a console clip is missing
The Xbox console and the Windows Xbox app must use the same Microsoft account and gamertag. If the console recorded the clip while signed in to another Xbox account, it will not appear in the current Windows profile’s Captures area.

Also check whether the clip has finished uploading. A capture that exists only in the console’s local storage is not necessarily available in the Windows app. Upload or sync can take time, particularly for longer clips or when the console has a poor connection. After confirming the account, close and reopen the Xbox app or refresh its Captures section.
View clips recorded on a Windows 11 PC
For clips created with Xbox Game Bar, use the Capture widget:
- Press Windows + G.
- In the Game Bar overlay, find the Capture widget.
- Select See my captures.
Windows opens the list of screenshots and videos recorded by Game Bar. You can play a file, open its folder, or use the available sharing controls.

Open the recording folder directly
Game Bar normally saves PC recordings here:
C:Users<username>VideosCapturesReplace <username> with the name of your Windows user account. For example:

C:UsersAlexVideosCapturesTo open it, press Windows + E, select the address bar in File Explorer, enter the path, and press Enter. If you changed the capture save location, the files may be somewhere else.
Change where Windows saves Game Bar clips
- Open Settings.
- Go to Gaming > Captures.
- Review the capture settings and save-location options available on your Windows 11 build.
This page also exposes settings such as the maximum recording length, whether audio is recorded, and video quality or frame-rate options. Some choices depend on the graphics hardware and video encoder installed in the PC.

Record another PC clip with Xbox Game Bar
Game Bar has separate shortcuts for saving recent gameplay and making a continuous recording:

Windows + Alt + G does not begin a full recording. It saves only the recent period configured in Settings > Gaming > Captures. Use Windows + Alt + R when you want recording to continue from that point forward.

What to do when Windows + G does nothing
Work through these checks:
- Enable Game Bar: open Settings > Gaming > Xbox Game Bar, then enable the option allowing Xbox Game Bar to open with the controller’s Xbox button or the keyboard shortcut. The exact wording can differ between Windows 11 builds.
- Repair or update the Xbox Game Bar package: open Settings > Apps > Installed apps, find Xbox Game Bar, select its three-dot menu, choose Advanced options, and try Repair. If that does not help, try Reset. Also install pending Windows and Microsoft Store updates.
- Test a supported game or application: Game Bar cannot capture every window. Desktop and system surfaces, protected video, and some applications may be excluded.
- Check graphics support: Game Bar recording requires compatible graphics encoding support and an appropriate video driver. Old or unsupported graphics hardware can prevent recording or reduce the available quality and frame-rate choices.
Why a recording is black or blank
A black recording does not necessarily mean that Windows saved the clip in the wrong folder. Protected video and other restricted content can deliberately block capture. Try recording a supported game instead of a streaming-video window, desktop surface, or system screen.

Do Xbox clips stay online permanently?
No. Captures stored on the Xbox network are subject to Microsoft’s retention policy and may be deleted after 90 days. Save important console clips to local storage or OneDrive instead of treating the Xbox network as a permanent archive.

The old Xbox Console Companion app is not the current Windows 11 route for viewing Xbox content. Use the current Xbox app for console-associated captures and Xbox Game Bar for recordings made on the PC.

Why can’t I see my Xbox clips on my Windows 11 PC?
Open the Xbox app, select your profile picture, and select Captures. Confirm that the app and console use the same Microsoft account and gamertag, then wait for the clip to finish uploading and refresh the app. A clip stored only on the console will not necessarily appear online.
Where are Xbox Game Bar recordings saved in Windows 11?
The default folder is C:Users<username>VideosCaptures. You can review or change capture settings and the save location at Settings > Gaming > Captures.
Do PC Game Bar clips appear in the Xbox app?
Not normally. Game Bar recordings are local Windows files, while the Xbox app’s Captures area shows captures associated with the signed-in Xbox/Microsoft account. These are separate capture sources.
