What Amazon reportedly inferred about one shopper
TechCrunch reported on October 6, 2026, that Amazon customer Megan (@fangirlinmegan) found the phrase “has flat buttocks” in an account area described as About You or shopping preferences. She wrote, “I stumbled upon a page of assumptions that Amazon has made about me based on my purchases and I’m literally speechless.” This is a reported profile label, not a verified description of her body or evidence that Amazon’s inference was accurate. TechCrunch reported the discovery.
The customer suspected the label might have followed a purchase of “butt scrunch leggings.” That was her explanation, not a confirmed account from Amazon. TechCrunch also reported that her post drew over a million views in less than a day; that figure is the publication’s description, not an independently verified platform metric.
How to find Amazon’s About You information

- Choose Your Shopping preferences.

- Tap the hamburger menu.
- Tap Account.
- Open Shopping preferences.
- Tap About you.
The reported page can include details shoppers add, such as shoe size, interests, and dietary preferences, alongside inferred interests. TechCrunch described examples seen by its journalist and colleagues, including photography, collectible card games, the Apple ecosystem, vinyl records, and ceramics. Those individual observations are anecdotes; they do not establish how accurate Amazon’s inferences are for shoppers generally.
What the profile does—and does not—tell you
A visible About You entry is one user-facing view of information associated with an account. It does not establish that the entry is correct, explain how Amazon generated it, or show everything Amazon processes about a shopper. The available reports do not include an Amazon representative’s explanation of the “has flat buttocks” label.

It also says Amazon does not share specific shopping actions—such as purchases, product views, or searches—with ad companies, while describing other information that may be used to serve and measure ads. This general policy does not explain the specific profile label or establish whether it affects advertising.
The Amazon Shopper Panel is a separate program involving information participants choose to share, such as uploaded receipts, survey responses, and ad-verification data. Its FAQ is not evidence that the program generated this About You entry.

Does Amazon think shoppers have “no friends”?
The reports cited here do not substantiate “no friends” as an Amazon profile label or inference. Fast Company also covered the story, but the available reporting does not establish that Amazon made this particular claim about the shopper. The phrase should not be treated as a confirmed part of Amazon’s profile data.
