Gmail for Android can show messages from accounts you’ve added together in its All inboxes view. It does not merge the accounts: each account remains separate, and you can switch to an individual account whenever you need it.
What Gmail’s “All inboxes” view does
All inboxes gives you one place in the Gmail app to view messages from the accounts you have added. To open it, tap the menu icon, then tap All inboxes. Google describes this as a combined view; it does not combine accounts, logins, or mailboxes into one account. Choosing a specific account from the account menu switches you to that account, whose messages remain separate. Google’s account-switching and All inboxes instructions explain the distinction.
Add another email account to Gmail for Android
Gmail supports adding another Gmail address as well as supported accounts from other providers. Google lists Outlook, iCloud Mail, and Yahoo as examples. The available setup path depends on the provider.
- Open Gmail and start adding an account. Tap your profile picture, then choose Add another account.
- Choose the account type. Select Google for another Gmail account. For a supported non-Gmail provider, choose that provider from the list and follow its sign-in prompts.
- For a provider not listed, choose Other. Enter the address and configure the account using the provider’s IMAP settings. Get the server details from your email provider; they are provider-specific.
- Return to the inbox. After setup, open the menu and tap All inboxes to view mail from the added accounts together.
Google notes that manual setup can produce warnings if a connection is insecure or a certificate is untrusted or invalid. Treat those warnings as a reason to verify the provider’s settings and connection rather than casually bypassing them. All inboxes is not the same as Gmailify or inbox layout
Adding an account versus Gmailify
You do not need Gmailify just to add another address and read its email in Gmail. Google’s account-add instructions cover adding external accounts separately. Gmailify was an additional option for selected external accounts, but Google says Gmailify for other email accounts will no longer be available starting January 2026. Check Google’s Gmailify help page for the current status.
Combined view versus message grouping
Within an individual account, Gmail also offers inbox layouts such as Default, Important first, Unread first, Starred first, and Priority Inbox. These change how messages are grouped in that account’s inbox; they do not bring mail from multiple accounts together. All inboxes is the cross-account view. Google’s Android inbox-layout instructions cover those layout choices.

If messages are missing or not updating
If an account appears in Gmail but its messages are not current, check the connection and synchronization settings. Google recommends checking Gmail sync and device account sync; mail may also take time to synchronize. Confirm that the account has available storage. A full Google Account storage limit can prevent sending and receiving, and storage is shared across Gmail, Google Photos, and Google Drive. Follow Google’s Gmail sync troubleshooting steps.
