Open your form in Google Forms and select Responses. Choose Summary for an overview by question, Individual to inspect one submission at a time, or open the linked Google Sheet or download a CSV to work with the response table.
View responses inside Google Forms
- Open the form in Google Forms.
- Select Responses at the top of the form editor.
- Choose the view that fits what you need: Summary or Individual.
The Summary tab appears after the form has received at least one response. If nobody has submitted the form yet, there is no response summary to display. Google documents the basic views and controls in its Google Forms response help.
Use Summary for a question-level overview
Summary groups results by question, making it useful for spotting common answers and reviewing the overall response patterns. It also includes a list of people who responded.
Use Individual to inspect a submission
Select Individual to view one submitted response at a time. Move between submissions with Previous and Next, or use the response selector.

Open responses in Sheets or download a CSV
For a response table you can sort, filter, or otherwise work with, use the Google Sheets link or export control in the Responses area. The form owner can send responses to a new spreadsheet or an existing one. To download a portable file instead, choose More → Download responses (.csv). Google describes these options in its response help and Forms-to-Sheets guidance.
Summary, Individual, Sheets, and CSV serve different purposes: an overview, a single submission, a working spreadsheet, and a downloadable data file. You can choose based on how you need to review or use the answers.

Check who can see the responses
Access to a form and access to its linked spreadsheet are separate permissions to manage. A collaborator on a form may also be able to access the response spreadsheet. Removing someone as a form collaborator does not necessarily remove their spreadsheet access, so review permissions on both files.
There is also a setting that can expose results to respondents. In the form editor, open Settings → Presentation and check View results summary. When enabled, the summary may include full-text responses or charts, and Google says it is visible to anyone who can respond to the form. Leave it off if respondents should not be able to see other people’s answers. See Google’s response help and Google’s Forms settings guidance.

For forms managed by an organization, use the current sharing configuration if someone cannot access the form or its results. Google says older trusted-domain access through restricted-form settings was removed on September 8, 2025, and older forms were automatically upgraded beginning December 2025. Its updated guidance describes access controls based on individual accounts, Google Groups, and target audiences: Google Forms sharing and access updates.
Why some response views or exports may be missing
Google documents response-count thresholds that can limit what appears or syncs. These thresholds can explain why a large form behaves differently from a smaller one:
Rank #4
| Form response count | Google-documented effect |
|---|---|
| More than 10,000 | The question or individual response view may be unavailable. |
| More than 50,000 | The response summary may not be available. |
| More than 100,000 | Responses may not sync to Google Sheets. |
These are thresholds documented by Google, not guarantees that every form at that size will show the same symptom. See Google’s response help.

Google says that starting in September 2026, each form will have a total storage limit of 1 GB and a response limit of 500,000 responses. These are Google-stated product limits, not independent measurements. For forms not already above either limit, submissions stop when the applicable limit is reached.

After that, Google will generate an archive for admins or owners and delete responses to allow new submissions.
