Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →If someone shared your intimate images without permission, first preserve non-explicit evidence, limit unwanted contact and account visibility, then report the content to the platform where it appears. Sharing an image without your consent is not your fault; agreeing to create or send an image does not mean agreeing to have it shared.
Start with the steps that reduce exposure and preserve your options
- Record what happened without saving or forwarding the image. Note the person’s username or handle, profile URL, where they contacted you, the full URL of any public post, dates and times, messages or threats, and report numbers or platform replies. Screenshots can document messages and context. Do not download, forward or attach sexual images of anyone under 18, or other illegal or restricted content, as evidence.
- Limit contact and visibility. Review the service’s privacy settings to reduce who can view your account or contact you. Use mute or hide tools if you need to stop seeing messages, and block the person after preserving relevant records when it is safe to do so. If you fear that someone has access to an account, use that provider’s official account-security or recovery instructions.
- Report each post or account to the platform. Use the reporting control on the post, image or profile when available, or the service’s official support channel. Keep a record of the request and any response. The Federal Trade Commission says that only platforms can take down intimate photos and videos shared without consent.
- Ask for help if you want it. A trusted person can help document posts, make reports or stay with you while you take these steps. The Australian eSafety Commissioner recommends confidential support as an option; you do not need to seek counselling before reporting content.
Secure accounts and reduce unwanted contact
There is no single recovery sequence that applies to every provider. If someone may know your password, can access your account, or controls a recovery method, go directly to that service’s official security or account-recovery instructions and follow its steps. Use official support channels rather than links sent by the person threatening or contacting you.
For accounts you can still access, check the provider’s privacy controls for who can see your profile, find or message you, and contact you. Adjust the settings that fit your situation, and use the provider’s mute, hide or block features to stop further contact. If an account is compromised, follow the provider’s recovery guidance before relying on privacy settings or blocking alone.
When contacting a platform to request removal, eSafety advises using a new email address if possible and avoiding unnecessary disclosure of your home address, phone number or complete identity documents. Provide only information the service needs to handle the report.

Report the content and understand which removal routes apply
Report directly to the platform
Submit a report for each place the image appears, including reposts where you can find them. A report on one post does not necessarily cover copies elsewhere. Keep the case number, date submitted and platform response so you can follow up.
United States: covered platforms under the Take It Down Act
According to Federal Trade Commission guidance published in September 2026, platforms covered by the U.S. Take It Down Act must provide a way to report covered nonconsensual intimate images, including deepfakes, and remove images and copies within 48 hours of a request. That deadline applies to covered platforms under the Act; it is not a promise that every site, service or private message will be removed within 48 hours. If a covered platform has no working reporting route or does not comply, the FTC directs people to TakeItDown.ftc.gov.

Australia: eSafety reports
The Australian eSafety Commissioner accepts reports from eligible complainants and says you do not have to contact the platform first. Its guidance also recommends reporting directly to the platform, which may be the fastest route in some cases. The eSafety process is specific to Australia and eligibility requirements apply.
Use the image-prevention tool that matches the age in the image
Hash tools create a digital fingerprint of an image to help participating services identify and prevent matching uploads. They do not guarantee removal everywhere, and they are not a substitute for reporting content that is already posted. Report existing posts to the platform first, then consider the relevant tool for help preventing future sharing.

Choose based on how old you were when the image was made, not your age now. Do not download or send an image of a minor to use as evidence. Use the appropriate child-safety and platform reporting routes instead.
If the person is threatening or extorting you
If someone demands money, gift cards, cryptocurrency, more images or another action to prevent sharing, the eSafety Commissioner describes this as sexual extortion. Do not pay or provide more intimate content. Preserve the threat and account details without saving or forwarding illegal or restricted images, stop contact where you can do so safely, and report the account and messages.
