Three controls do most of the work on an OKX exchange account: a passkey or authenticator app to protect sign-in and verification, and a withdrawal allowlist with the new-address lock to limit where funds can go. They do different jobs, so you need to set them up in the right order. This guide covers the OKX exchange account only, not the separate OKX Web3 wallet. It is based on OKX help and educational pages accessed in October 2026. Menu labels vary by app version, platform and region, so follow the options shown in your logged-in account.
What each control does
| Control | Role | What it does not do |
|---|---|---|
| Passkey (FIDO) | A two-factor method that proves you hold a registered device or security key | Does not restrict where withdrawals go |
| Authenticator-app 2FA | An extra check beyond your password; OKX’s security guidance recommends it | Does not restrict destinations |
| Withdrawal allowlist | Limits withdrawals to recipients saved in your address book | Does not replace recipient verification, which is a separate setting |
| New-address lock | A newly added recipient cannot receive withdrawals for 24 hours | Only works alongside the allowlist |
Treat them as layers. An attacker who gets past sign-in still faces the destination limits, and the 24-hour delay gives you time to notice an unfamiliar address.
Step 1: Set up a passkey
OKX describes passkeys as FIDO passkeys used as a two-factor method. Depending on your device and platform, a passkey can rely on biometrics or a device PIN, on another phone or tablet, or on an external security key.
On the web
- Requirements listed by OKX: Windows 10 or macOS Ventura (or a USB security key that supports FIDO2), plus a FIDO-supported browser: Chrome 109 or later, Safari 16 or later, or Edge 109 or later.
- Path: Profile > Security > Passkeys, then follow the prompts.
In the app
- Requirements listed by OKX: an iOS 16.0+ or Android 14.0+ device, or an external FIDO2 USB security key. Android passkeys depend on Google services.
- Path: Menu > Account settings > Security > Passkeys.
Using a USB security key
A FIDO2-compatible USB key is an optional way to create a passkey on both web and app. It is not required, and OKX does not name a recommended model. Check that a key works with your own device and browser before relying on it, and do not assume any key works everywhere.

- BUILT TO LAST: Made from tough, waterproof, and crush-resistant materials. Manufactured in Sweden and programmed in the USA with the highest security standards.
Cautions before removing or replacing a passkey
- Once the feature is active, at least one passkey must remain linked to the account.
- If you remove a passkey without verifying the removal with another passkey, OKX’s app instructions say a 24-hour restriction on withdrawals and P2P trading may apply.
- When changing phones, register a working passkey on the new device first. Remove the old one only afterward, verifying the removal with a passkey.
Step 2: Enable authenticator-app 2FA and the surrounding basics
OKX’s security guidance recommends authenticator-app 2FA as an extra check beyond your password. It also recommends:
- a strong password that you use nowhere else;
- an anti-phishing code, which lets you recognize genuine OKX emails;
- managing your connected devices.
Exact binding screens differ by account and region, so use the Security section in your account settings.

Step 3: Turn on the withdrawal allowlist
With the allowlist on, withdrawals can go only to recipients saved in your withdrawal address book.
Save your recipients first
Add every legitimate destination before enabling the restriction, and check each address and its network carefully. On the web, you can add addresses in batches of up to 50 at a time; no total cap is stated.

- POWERFUL SECURITY KEY: The YubiKey 5 NFC is the most versatile physical passkey, protecting your digital life from phishing attacks. It ensures only you can access your accounts
- WORKS WITH 1000+ ACCOUNTS: Compatible with popular accounts like Google, Microsoft, and Apple. A single YubiKey 5 NFC secures 100+ of your favorite accounts, including email, password managers, and more
- FAST & CONVENIENT LOGIN: Plug in your YubiKey 5 NFC via USB and tap it, or tap it against your phone (NFC), to authenticate. No batteries, no internet connection, and no extra fees required
- MOST SECURE PASSKEY: Supports FIDO2/WebAuthn, FIDO U2F, Yubico OTP, OATH-TOTP/HOTP, Smart card (PIV), and OpenPGP. That means it’s versatile, working almost anywhere you need it
- PRIMARY & SPARE KEYS: Just like having a spare house key, we recommend buying two YubiKeys - one for daily use and one as a spare. That way you’ll never get locked out of your accounts
Enable it in the app
- Go to Assets > Withdraw > Withdraw crypto.
- Open Address book, then Address settings.
- Turn on the allowlist.
- Optionally turn on the new-address withdrawal lock.
What the new-address lock changes
With the lock on, a recipient you add cannot be used for withdrawals for 24 hours. This is a deliberate delay: plan ahead for new destinations rather than expecting to withdraw immediately. If someone adds an address to your account without your knowledge, you have a day to spot and remove it.
Allowlisting is not the same as verification
An address on the allowlist may still require additional recipient verification. OKX treats these as separate settings, so do not assume allowlisting skips that step.

Turning it off
Disabling the allowlist requires security verification. Afterward, you can enter a new recipient manually during withdrawal. Disable it only when you need to, and consider re-enabling it afterward.
