To search Google with Siri, install the Google app, add its Search with Google action in Apple’s Shortcuts app, and give the shortcut a phrase you can remember. Then say “Hey Siri” and your phrase; the Google app opens so you can make a search. If you want one-tap access instead, Google also offers Search, Lens, and Voice Search widgets and Control Center shortcuts on compatible iPhones.
How to add Google Search to Siri
Google announced its “Search with Google” Siri Shortcut on February 6, 2020. The setup uses Apple’s Shortcuts app to connect a phrase you choose with a Google Search action. The exact screens and labels can vary as Google and iOS are updated.
- Install or update the Google app. The shortcut action comes from Google’s iOS app, so make sure it is on your iPhone or iPad.
- Open Apple’s Shortcuts app. Look for available actions from Google.
- Select “Search with Google.” Add that action to a shortcut.
- Record a custom Siri phrase. Choose a short phrase that is easy to say and remember.
- Run the shortcut with Siri. Say “Hey Siri,” followed by the phrase you recorded. When prompted, say what you want to search for.

What to say—and what happens next
There is no single required command phrase: Siri runs the shortcut when you say the custom phrase you recorded. For example, if you named it “Search Google,” say “Hey Siri, Search Google.” Siri then prompts you for the search request, and the Google app shows the results.

Which option should you use?
- Choose the Siri Shortcut when you want hands-free access and prefer speaking a custom phrase. It takes a little setup in Shortcuts and opens Google’s app.
- Choose a Lock Screen widget or Control Center shortcut when you want to open Search, Lens, or Voice Search with a tap. These options depend on the iOS version listed above.
- Ask Siri directly when a web answer from Siri is sufficient and you do not specifically need Google’s app or Google Search results.
Availability and feature limits
The Google app listing includes Search, Voice Search, Lens, Search Live, AI Mode, widgets, and encrypted connections, but Google warns that features may not be available in all countries.
