To screenshot an Indian bank webpage after OTP login, complete the bank’s normal, authorized login in a browser you control, navigate to the page you are allowed to document, then capture the visible page or its full scrollable contents. The screenshot call does not authenticate you or call a bank API. Because no bank or API is specified, the steps below are a general Playwright example—not confirmation that any bank permits browser automation.
First clarify what “with an API” means
An OTP login screen, an OTP service API, and a bank API that requires an authenticated session are different things. A screenshot API captures a webpage; it does not log you into online banking or provide access to a bank’s services.
For example, HDFC Bank’s API portal describes an OTP product with generation and validation APIs. Its documented flow sends an OTP to the customer’s registered mobile number and returns a token after validation for use in a subsequent API call. The portal presents this as customer validation with the bank’s platform and fintech partners; it does not establish that this is an internet-banking login API or the API intended by this question. A separate example is NPCI’s BASE service. Its December 19, 2024 circular describes a webpage flow in which a user provides an Aadhaar number, consents, enters a captcha, and completes OTP validation through UIDAI before BASE uses its API process to find linked bank-account information. The applicable authentication flow, API access, and automation rules depend on the particular bank, service, and environment. Identify those before adapting this example. RBI’s Authentication mechanisms for digital payment transactions Directions, 2025, dated September 25, 2025, state that digital payment transactions in India are required to meet two factors of authentication and list SMS OTP among possible factors. That regulatory requirement does not authorize browser automation or establish the login policy for a particular bank. See the RBI Directions.
Before automating: confirm permission and protect the account
- Confirm that you are permitted to access and automate the specific page. Prefer a bank-approved sandbox and test credentials when available. Do not assume a production banking site permits automation.
- Complete the bank’s normal OTP flow. Do not intercept, replay, generate, or bypass OTPs, CAPTCHAs, access controls, or other account protections.
- Do not make a payment, transfer, or other account change just to obtain a screenshot. Use a safe, authorized page state or a test environment.
- Before sharing an image, check for names, account numbers, balances, transaction identifiers, OTPs, and other personal or financial data. Mask what is not needed.
- Treat both the screenshot and any saved authenticated browser state as sensitive. Limit access and retention, and delete them when they are no longer needed.
Capture the page with Playwright
Playwright can take a screenshot after you have completed login through the expected flow. The code below deliberately pauses for a person to complete the OTP step; it does not automate OTP entry. It assumes Node.js and Playwright are installed and that you have permission to use the target site this way. Install Playwright
- Install Node.js if it is not already available in your development environment.
- In a new project directory, run
npm init -y, thennpm install playwright. - Install the browser binary with
npx playwright install chromium.
Run a visible-browser capture
Save the following as capture.mjs. Replace the example URL with the authorized bank page. The script opens a visible Chromium window, waits for you to finish the normal login, and then saves a viewport screenshot and a full-page screenshot.

}Run it by setting the URL in your shell, for example BANK_URL='https://example.com/' node capture.mjs. Use the actual bank URL only after confirming that access and automation are allowed. The script waits for a terminal Enter after login so you can inspect the page before capture; it does not verify that login succeeded or that the page contains the intended information.

Choose the capture extent

Review the result carefully: a full-page image may include details below the visible area that you did not intend to retain or share.
For a manual capture instead, use the browser’s built-in screenshot facility after the authorized login. Manual capture avoids maintaining an automation script, while Playwright makes a permitted workflow repeatable. Neither method changes the bank’s access rules.
Session state: convenience with credential risk
You can complete OTP each run, or in an approved testing workflow save and reuse Playwright authentication state. Reusing state may reduce repeated login steps, but the file can contain sensitive cookies and headers that could impersonate you or your test account. Playwright warns about this risk and recommends keeping state files out of source control, for example in an ignored authentication directory. See Playwright’s authentication documentation.

- Use saved state only when the bank and your organization permit it.
- Restrict file permissions and storage access; do not commit the file to a repository or include it in shared artifacts.
- Keep it only as long as necessary and remove it when finished. A saved session may expire or be invalidated by the bank, so do not assume it will remain usable.
- Do not use stored state to evade an OTP prompt, access policy, or other security control.

Troubleshooting
- The browser never reaches the page: Check the target URL, network access, and whether the site requires navigation through its normal entry point. Do not try to defeat a block or access control; stop and consult the bank or your administrator.
- The page is still at login after OTP: Verify manually that the bank accepted the normal login and that the expected page loaded before pressing Enter. The example script does not detect successful authentication.
- The screenshot is blank or incomplete: Wait for the page to finish rendering and confirm the browser displays the content before capturing. Some pages update after initial navigation; do not add automation that submits account actions merely to force a page state.
- The full-page screenshot is too long or exposes extra information: Use the viewport capture instead, or capture only a permitted, relevant page state using the browser’s normal interface. Inspect and redact the output before sharing.
- Playwright cannot launch Chromium: Install the browser with
npx playwright install chromiumin the project environment and confirm the installation completed. - A saved session no longer works: The bank may have expired or invalidated the session. Follow the bank’s normal login flow again if authorized; never treat old state as a way around renewed authentication.
