On a supported Samsung Galaxy, open Quick settings, tap Screen recorder, choose the available sound and capture options, then tap Start recording. When you finish, stop the recording and look for it in Gallery. The feature and its controls vary by model and software version, and some apps or screens block recording.
Start a screen recording
- Open the screen you want to capture. On Samsung’s One UI 7 instructions for Canada, swipe down from the top-right edge to open Quick settings; swiping from the top-left opens notifications by default. You can swipe sideways between panels. Samsung says the combined panel can be restored in panel settings. The gesture and panel layout may differ on other versions. - Tap Screen recorder. If you do not see it, open the Quick settings edit controls and add Screen recorder from the available buttons if your device offers it. Samsung Gulf describes moving the button into the panel. Samsung Gulf’s instructions
- Choose the options shown, then tap Start recording. Samsung Canada’s documented flow displays a three-second countdown that can be skipped in that interface. A recording toolbar lets you pause, resume, or stop.
- Stop when you are done. Open Gallery to find the saved clip. If it is not visible there, check My Files as described below.
Choose the right recording settings
Settings differ by model and software. Samsung’s US guide documents the following options on capable devices; treat them as examples of what may appear, not a guarantee that every Galaxy has every control. Samsung US support

| Sound | None, Media, or Media and mic. Choose Media and mic when you need to capture both device audio and your voice, if that option is available. |
| Video quality | High (1080p), Medium (720p), or Low (480p), according to Samsung US. Higher resolution gives a clearer picture but creates a larger video file. |
| Capture area | Samsung Canada’s documented flow offers full screen or a selected area on supported software. |
| Show taps and touches | Turn this on when a tutorial needs to show where you tap; it may not be available on every device. |
| Selfie window | On capable models, add a small front-camera overlay and choose its size. Samsung notes that the Galaxy Tab A8 does not support this overlay. |
| Save location | A save-location control is available on some devices; otherwise, check Gallery and the DCIM folder in My Files. |
| Drawing or writing | Some devices let you annotate while recording. Samsung cautions that drawing temporarily prevents interaction with some games, videos, or navigation. |
For a walkthrough, tap indicators can make actions easier to follow. A selfie overlay can add your reaction or explanation, but it also occupies part of the screen. Select the capture area when you want to exclude unrelated screen content, if your device provides that choice.
Find the saved video
Start in Gallery and look for the screen recording. Samsung Canada’s stated default location is Internal storage > DCIM > Screen recordings. Samsung US says some recordings may need to be located in My Files under Internal storage > DCIM. Folder names and save-location settings can differ by device, so inspect DCIM if the clip does not appear in Gallery.

Check support and recording limits
Screen recording is not available on every Galaxy model. Samsung’s US and Canadian support pages list different supported-device ranges, so neither list should be treated as a universal catalogue. Check for Screen recorder in Quick settings or consult support information for your exact model and software version.
Samsung Canada’s version guidance states that devices on Android 10 with One UI 2.5 are limited to one hour or 4 GB per recording, while Android 11 with One UI 3.0 or later has no recording-time or file-size limit. Troubleshoot a missing or blocked recording
- Screen recorder is missing: Check the Quick settings edit controls and add the button if it appears among the available controls. If it is not offered, the model or software may not support the feature; check model-specific Samsung support.
- The video is not in Gallery: Open My Files and inspect Internal storage > DCIM, including a Screen recordings subfolder. A device may also provide a save-location setting.
- The screen is black or recording will not start: The app or content may be protected. Samsung says copyright-protected apps and content may block recording; protected photos, videos, apps, and websites may not be captured. There is no supported screen-recorder workaround established for bypassing those restrictions.
- A call cannot be captured: Samsung US says the feature does not record phone, VoIP, or video calls.
- Audio is absent or incomplete: Check the sound choice before recording. The selected source may be None or Media rather than Media and mic, and some protected apps may restrict capture.
- Your menus do not match: Samsung advises accounting for the model, software version, and app version; labels and paths can vary.
