To mirror your iPad’s entire screen wirelessly, connect the iPad and a compatible TV or Apple TV to the same Wi-Fi network, then select the TV from Control Center → Screen Mirroring. Apple lists Apple TV 4K and AirPlay 2-enabled smart TVs as destinations; not every smart TV supports AirPlay.
Before you start: check that your TV supports AirPlay
Apple’s iPad guide lists Apple TV 4K and AirPlay 2-enabled smart TVs as devices you can use to show the iPad screen. Check the exact TV model’s specifications or its manufacturer’s documentation for AirPlay support; the label “smart TV” alone does not confirm compatibility. If your TV does not support AirPlay, Apple TV 4K is one possible separate receiver. You do not need to buy one if your TV already supports AirPlay. The Apple instructions cited here do not specify a wired adapter for every iPad model, so this guide covers the wireless method.
How to mirror your iPad screen to a TV
- Connect both devices to the same Wi-Fi network. Connect the iPad and the Apple TV or AirPlay-enabled television to the same network. Apple specifies this for AirPlay. Apple’s AirPlay instructions provide the network requirement.
- Open Control Center on the iPad. Use the Control Center gesture for your iPad to access its controls.
- Tap Screen Mirroring. Choose Screen Mirroring, then select your TV or Apple TV from the list of available destinations.
- Enter a passcode if prompted. If a code appears on the television, enter that AirPlay passcode on the iPad.
- Check the TV. The iPad display should now appear on the television. Apple describes this as showing whatever appears on the iPad; the TV mirrors the screen rather than merely receiving a video. See Apple’s iPad user guide.
How to stop mirroring
When you are finished, open Control Center on the iPad, tap Screen Mirroring, then tap Stop Mirroring. Apple documents this stop control in its iPad guide and Apple TV guide.

Screen mirroring or AirPlay video: which should you use?
Screen Mirroring reproduces the iPad display on the TV, including the app or other content currently on screen. By contrast, starting AirPlay from a video app sends supported video playback to the destination. Apple documents the two workflows separately in its AirPlay instructions.
Some video apps may not support AirPlay, so a video that will not play this way does not necessarily mean the iPad or TV is faulty. Apple suggests checking whether the app is available in the Apple TV App Store. App availability does not guarantee that every video will work through AirPlay.

Troubleshooting: the TV does not appear or the video will not play
The TV is missing from Screen Mirroring
- Confirm that the destination is an Apple TV 4K or a smart TV with AirPlay 2 support.
- Check that the iPad and receiver are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
- Return to Control Center and open Screen Mirroring again to check the available destinations.
These are the compatibility and network checks specified in Apple’s AirPlay support instructions.
The TV displays a code
Enter the AirPlay passcode shown on the TV into the iPad when prompted.

Only a particular app’s video fails
Some video apps do not support AirPlay. Check whether the app is available in the Apple TV App Store; the app’s AirPlay limitation may explain the problem.
You want the iPad to return to its own display
Open Control Center, tap Screen Mirroring, and choose Stop Mirroring.
