If you need Google Flights results in code, the clearest documented route is a third-party extraction service—not a public Google Flights API. Google’s own Flights Search information is aimed at airline and online travel agency partners, and describes an invitation-only integration. Before collecting data, decide whether you need Google Flights’ displayed results or simply searchable flight inventory: those are different jobs, with different authorization, reliability, and booking considerations.
First decide what “Google Flights data” means
People asking how to scrape Google Flights commonly want itineraries, fares, schedules, layovers, emissions, or booking options in a machine-readable format. But “results that Google Flights displays” and “flight inventory I can search or book” are not interchangeable requirements.

Google describes Google Flights as “a free and organic metasearch engine” that provides flight solutions and deep links to partners. See Google’s Flights Search information. Its intended partner route is therefore distinct from using an extractor to collect what the consumer-facing site displays.
Check access rules before automating
Do not treat the existence of an extraction product or a working request as permission to collect, retain, or redistribute data. Google’s US Terms of Service effective July 30, 2026 prohibit “using automated means to access content from any of our services in violation of the machine-readable instructions on our web pages.” Google Search Central separately says that automated queries to Google Search without express permission violate its spam policies and Terms of Service. That Search policy is specifically about Google Search; it should not be stretched into a definitive ruling about every Google Flights method or page.

Use a managed extractor for Google Flights display results

Its documentation describes a GET request using route, dates, localization, and output-format parameters, with structured responses and Python and JavaScript usage. This is a vendor service, not an official Google API. The vendor documents result groups such as best_flights and other_flights, plus follow-up lookups using itinerary-selection and booking tokens.
The example below shows the documented request shape using the SerpApi search endpoint. Create an API key with the vendor and keep it in an environment variable rather than committing it to source control. Confirm the vendor’s current parameter names, endpoint, response schema, rate limits, and commercial terms before deploying; the service’s documentation is the authority for its current behavior.

Inspect both best_flights and other_flights when present rather than silently treating one group as the entire result set. A response is a retrieval at a point in time, not proof that every carrier, fare, or bookable option is represented. For useful price history, save the observation time, origin, destination, travel dates, currency, locale, and source alongside each result. Without that context, two fare records may not be comparable.
Use follow-up tokens only from actual results
The documented flow can use a departure-selection token to retrieve return options, and a booking token to request booking options. Treat tokens as opaque values returned by the service: do not construct them or assume they remain valid indefinitely. A booking-options lookup returns options; it does not itself buy or reserve a ticket. Pinning a particular flight is another documented flow, so check the vendor’s current documentation for the required parameters and token lifecycle.

Choose between extraction and an authorized inventory API
Before building a production workflow, compare the options against the actual product requirement rather than assuming the closest-looking JSON response is suitable.

Why direct browser scraping is a poor default
A self-maintained browser scraper must contend with dynamic pages, changing markup, localization, asynchronous loading, and access controls. More importantly, the available evidence here does not establish a robust or permitted direct-browser recipe, nor does it establish Google Flights’ current robots directives. Google’s machine-readable-instructions language makes checking the exact current instructions material. Do not copy an old selector script and treat it as a stable integration or as evidence that the collection is allowed.

If you have an authorized use case, document the permission basis and target paths first, then build only within those limits. Avoid evasion techniques. For an ongoing product, use an authorized inventory source or a vendor whose contract and current documentation fit your use case.
Reliability, monitoring, and cost planning
Third-party extraction has different reliability properties from Google’s own partner tooling. Google’s partner Live API dashboard covers a rolling seven days of partner-query success rates and error samples, while its Quality dashboard reports measures such as itinerary-not-found and price discrepancy over a rolling 90-day average. Those windows describe partner dashboards; they do not guarantee the performance of a third-party extractor.
- Set an explicit request timeout and handle both transport errors and vendor-level error payloads.
- Log a request identifier or safe diagnostic context, query time, route, travel dates, locale, and response status. Do not log API keys.
- Track parse failures and schema changes separately from failed HTTP requests.
- For fare tracking, compare observations only when route, dates, currency, and locale align; show users when a displayed price was observed.
- Estimate cost from the provider’s current published plan and quota for your usage pattern. Pricing, quotas, and licensing terms are not established by the cited documentation summarized here.
- Use bounded retries for transient failures and avoid retry loops that create excess traffic or violate provider limits.
