To schedule a social media post with Claude, connect Claude to Buffer through Buffer’s remote MCP server. Claude can then help draft and schedule content using Buffer’s tools; Buffer manages the channels, queue, and publishing workflow. You still need to review and approve actions that change your Buffer account.
Connect Claude to Buffer
Buffer documents two setup routes: Claude on the web or desktop, and Claude Code. Both connect to the same MCP server and require you to authenticate with Buffer and approve access. Menu names in Claude may change, so if the path below differs, use the live connector screen.
Claude web or desktop
- Open Customize → Connectors → Add custom connector.
- Enter
Bufferas the connector name andhttps://mcp.buffer.com/mcpas the remote MCP server URL, then add and connect it. - Sign in to Buffer if prompted and approve the requested access.

- In a terminal, add the remote server with
claude mcp add --transport http buffer https://mcp.buffer.com/mcp. - Start a Claude Code session and run
/mcp. - Select the Buffer MCP server, then sign in to Buffer and approve access if prompted.
Buffer documents its server endpoint and Claude Code setup on its integration page.

Check the Buffer channels and timezone
Before asking Claude to schedule anything, ask it to list the Buffer organizations and channels available to the connection. Buffer’s MCP documentation says account information includes the account timezone and current local time; channel listings provide IDs and details needed when creating a post.
For example, ask: “List my Buffer channels and show me which ones have posts scheduled for tomorrow.” Check that Claude identifies the intended channel and uses the timezone shown for the Buffer account.

Draft and schedule a post
Tell Claude which channel to use, what the post should say or what brief to follow, and the intended date and time. For example:

Buffer’s create_post tool supports adding a post to the queue, sharing now, sharing next, or scheduling it for a custom time. Custom scheduling requires a future dueAt value. Buffer’s documentation specifies ISO 8601 timestamps with a timezone offset, so avoid assuming that “tomorrow at 5 p.m.” means your computer’s local time.
Buffer’s supported services listed for create_post include Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, YouTube, Google Business, Mastodon, TikTok, Threads, Bluesky, and Start Page. Format and media requirements depend on the service:

- Twitter, Mastodon, Threads, and Bluesky support text-only posts.
- Instagram and TikTok require an image or video.
- Pinterest requires an image and board metadata.
- YouTube requires a video, title, and category.
Confirm the channel’s current availability and requirements in Buffer before requesting a platform-specific post; a text draft alone will not meet every channel’s publishing requirements.
Review the action, then verify the schedule
Creating, editing, or deleting a post changes Buffer account data. Claude may ask you to approve a write tool before it runs. Check the destination channel, final copy, and scheduled time before authorizing the action. Buffer describes the workflow as sending content through its queue for review and editing before publication; that is Buffer’s description of its process, not a guarantee that every post will require the same review step.

After approval, ask Claude to show the scheduled post or queue entry. Verify the saved channel and time against what you requested. Buffer’s post tools return the saved record and report the actions allowed for that post, which can help you confirm what was created.
What the MCP connection does—and does not do
MCP gives Claude access to Buffer tools; it does not make Claude an independent publisher connected directly to each social network. Buffer remains the service that manages the schedule and publishing workflow. Use Claude to prepare and direct the post, and use the returned Buffer record and queue to check the result.
