You can schedule a batch of social media posts by preparing a CSV file, importing it into a scheduler, checking the preview for errors, and confirming the queue or draft action. The exact template, supported post types, and upload limits depend on the scheduler and channel, so start with the tool you plan to use rather than a generic spreadsheet.
How to schedule posts in bulk with a CSV
- Choose your scheduler and channels. Check that the scheduler supports bulk uploads for the accounts you want to post to. For Buffer, download a fresh template for the specific channel; some channels require extra columns. See Buffer’s bulk-upload instructions.
- Download the current template. Avoid reusing an old CSV: templates and required fields can change. Keep the provided column headers exactly as shown, including capitalization.
- Enter one post per row. Buffer’s documented general format includes post text, an image URL, optional tags, an optional posting time, and a Pinterest board name when relevant. Follow the channel-specific template if it differs.
- Set dates and times carefully. In Buffer’s format, the Posting Time field uses
YYYY-MM-DD HH:mmin 24-hour time. Zero-pad month, day, hour, and minute values; for example, use2026-10-07 09:05. Check the saved CSV after editing because spreadsheet software such as Excel may reformat timestamps. - Save in CSV format. Do not upload an XLS or XLSX workbook when the scheduler asks for a CSV. Buffer recommends UTF-8 or UTF-16 encoding if your posts contain emoji.
- Check images and post types. Where the workflow uses image URLs, make sure each URL points directly to an image and is publicly accessible. Buffer’s documented bulk upload accepts text and single-image posts, but not video or carousel posts; its help page also says YouTube bulk uploads are not currently supported.
- Import, inspect, and confirm. Review every post in the scheduler’s upload preview. Fix errors and upload again if needed. In Buffer, choose Add Posts to Queue or Save as Drafts to commit the import; viewing the preview alone does not save the posts.
Check the scheduler’s upload limits first
Batch limits are product rules, not general limits across social media. The following figures are those stated in the vendors’ documentation and may change; check the linked help pages before preparing a large import.

Which bulk scheduler fits your batch?
Buffer’s channel-specific templates and review screen suit a batch that fits its per-channel limit and text or single-image format. Hootsuite may fit a batch that needs one of its listed destinations or a larger documented batch ceiling, provided your plan includes Bulk Composer. These are comparisons of vendor-documented features, not results from hands-on testing.

Fix common bulk-upload problems
- Posts or fields are missing: Start again from the current template for the destination channel. Match headers exactly and remove blank rows.
- Dates import at the wrong time: Check the saved CSV, not just the spreadsheet display. Restore the required
YYYY-MM-DD HH:mmformat and 24-hour time where Buffer’s format applies. - An image does not appear: Confirm that the URL is a direct link to the image and that the file is publicly accessible to the scheduler.
- Some rows are skipped: Compare the batch with your plan’s upload cap and split it into smaller imports. Buffer says excess rows may be skipped without an error when a plan limit is exceeded.
- The posts are not in your queue: A preview is not a completed import. Confirm the final queue or draft action after reviewing the upload.
- A video or carousel will not import in Buffer: Use a workflow that supports that format; Buffer’s documented bulk upload is for text and single-image posts.
