To run prerecorded videos as a continuous YouTube live stream, schedule a live event in YouTube Studio, then use server-side playback and encoder software to send your videos to YouTube. YouTube handles the event and ingest connection; the server software handles the playlist, playback, encoding, and recovery. A scheduled event alone does not play or loop your files.
What you need to set up
- A YouTube channel eligible to livestream.
- Prerecorded video files and server-side software or equipment that can play them in sequence and send an encoded feed continuously.
- An always-on host: a server, an existing suitable computer, or standalone encoder hardware. YouTube does not require a particular server type or specific machine.
- The stream URL and stream key from YouTube Live Control Room.
- A plan to monitor playback, the encoder connection, and the public watch page.
The YouTube instructions establish how to create an event and connect an encoder; they do not prescribe a playlist program, operating system, server command, or restart script. Choose playback and encoding software whose documentation covers continuous playlists and recovery, and follow its exact setup instructions.
Check livestream eligibility first
As of 2026-10-03, YouTube Help says a channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days, and meet the minimum age of 16 to livestream. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable streaming before the day you intend to launch. Check the current requirements in YouTube’s live-streaming guide.

Schedule the YouTube event and get the ingest details
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go live to open Live Control Room.
- Open Manage → Schedule stream, then create a new stream or reuse prior settings. Reuse copies metadata, stream settings, and the stream key; review them rather than assuming they still suit this broadcast.
- Set the event’s title, description, visibility, and other details. Confirm the intended privacy setting and watch-page information before publishing.
- In the event’s stream settings, copy the stream URL and stream key. YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Keep the key private; reset it in Live Control Room if it is compromised.
- Use the RTMPS ingest URL when your encoder supports it. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted ingest. Reveal and copy the RTMPS URL from Stream settings rather than assuming the default displayed RTMP URL is the one you need. YouTube notes port 443 may help with some SSL connection cases.
See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions, live stream settings, and RTMPS guidance for the current Studio workflow. Treat the key like a password: do not include it in screenshots, public logs, or shared configuration files.

- Compact but Powerful Design: ZowieBox is smaller than a phone, featuring a tally light and LCD screen for streaming status. Capture console gameplay in up to 4K with zero-lag HDMI passthrough, while the built-in video encoder converts video for IP streaming. The IP stream can also be decoded back to a 4K HDMI signal.
- Standalone Game Streaming: Just plug and play—ZowieBox enables PC-free live gaming without affecting gameplay. As an RTMP hardware encoder and HDMI streamer, it delivers stable streaming directly from your source, making it ideal for gaming, live events, and professional broadcasting.
- NDI|HX3 Converter Technology: ZowieBox converts HDMI signals to NDI|HX3/HX2/HX, functioning as an NDI video encoder, or NDI Video Decoder for flexible IP workflows. Certified NDI technology enables low-latency gameplay streaming through OBS/vMix. Note: Encoder and decoder modes cannot run simultaneously; full NDI signals are not supported.
- UVC to HDMI Conversion: Supporting up to 4K@30fps and 1080p@60fps decoding, ZowieBox enables flexible conversion for webcam and video workflows. As a video decoder and HDMI to IP converter, it expands connectivity options for professional video devices. Note: USB capture card functionality is not currently supported.
- All-around Configuration Options: Control ZowieBox through its web UI on a PC, phone, or tablet. Manage connected PTZ cameras, tally light, video/audio, OSD, work mode, streams, network, and system settings. Support for VISCA over IP encoder workflows enables flexible PTZ control, while the dashboard provides video preview and system status.
Configure server playback and encoding
Build the playlist in your chosen software
Add the prerecorded files in the order you want them played and configure the player to continue or loop according to your channel plan. Confirm the software can play every file and hand its output to an encoder continuously. Playlist syntax, looping controls, process supervision, server sizing, and restart behavior depend on the selected program and host; YouTube does not provide those implementation details in its event setup guides.
Set the encoder to match the source and YouTube’s current guidance
Enter the exact ingest URL and stream key copied from Live Control Room. Choose a supported video format and resolution/frame rate appropriate to the files and available upload capacity. YouTube’s encoder settings guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 options, frame rates up to 60 fps, CBR, and AAC or MP3 audio, with format-specific limitations. It recommends a 2-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed 4 seconds. Use the bitrate in YouTube’s current table for the selected resolution and frame rate; do not apply one bitrate indiscriminately to every stream. These are YouTube Help recommendations checked on 2026-10-03, not a guarantee that every encoder exposes identical options. Consult YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrate, and resolution guidance.

Start the feed and publish the event
- Start playlist playback and the encoder process on the server.
- Wait for the incoming signal and preview to appear in Live Control Room. Check picture and sound before publishing.
- For a scheduled stream, select Go live when the preview and signal are ready, unless the event’s auto-start settings change that step. Inspect auto-start and auto-stop rather than assuming the event will publish or end automatically.
- Open the watch page on a viewer device and confirm that it is accessible, with both video and audio. Keep monitoring the server process and YouTube signal during the broadcast.
Make a continuous stream more reliable
A 24/7 channel is an operational system, not just a scheduled event. The server, player, encoder, and network connection can each interrupt the feed. YouTube recommends monitoring audio and video quality, checking viewer access, checking local archive growth, and testing backup-encoder rollover. Its guidance does not define a universal failover script, so configure recovery in the software or hosting environment you choose.

- Verify the preview before publishing, then check the public watch page on the devices your viewers use.
- Keep the stream key private and use RTMPS if your encoder supports it.
- Monitor the player, encoder process, outgoing connection, audio, and video. Arrange a restart or backup process suited to your software and host.
- Check local archive growth and decide separately how to retain recordings.
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its reviewed guidance does not establish that one uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast will produce a complete archive. If a full replay matters, plan for shorter scheduled sessions or a separate local recording/archive process. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips.

Choose the host and encoder approach
| Approach | What it means | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Software encoder on a server or computer | Software plays or receives the playlist and encodes the feed. An existing suitable computer can serve as the host; a separate always-on machine is optional. | Playlist support, continuous encoding, RTMPS support, process recovery, and the maintenance you are prepared to handle. |
| Standalone hardware encoder | A dedicated encoder sends the live feed; whether it can also play the prerecorded playlist depends on the selected equipment and setup. | Playlist capability, supported formats and ingest settings, recovery behavior, and operating requirements. |
YouTube describes both software running on a computer and standalone hardware as encoder options; neither class is mandatory. Its documentation does not establish a minimum server specification or endorse a particular machine. Buy or provision a separate host only if you need one that can remain on and run your selected software.
