Start by choosing the Nintendo console and first games you actually want, then set a firm total budget before you shop. Save toward that amount on a schedule, compare the full checkout cost of bundles and separate purchases, and leave optional extras out unless you need them.
Set a spending cap before comparing deals
Make a short list of the console and two or three games you expect to play first. Add their current prices, estimated sales tax, and delivery charges. Include an online membership or accessory only if your household has decided it needs one. The result is your maximum target—not a reason to borrow or take money from essentials.
Nintendo announced that the U.S. Switch 2 suggested retail price increased from $449.99 to $499.99 effective September 1, 2026. Nintendo said the original Switch family’s pricing was unchanged in that announcement. Turn the target into a savings schedule
- Subtract money you have already set aside for the purchase from your target.
- Divide the remaining amount by the number of pay periods or months before you plan to buy.
- Set aside that amount when you receive income, and revisit the target if prices or your wanted-games list changes.
If the amount per period is not workable, extend the timeline or reduce the planned purchases. Do not treat a sale or financing offer as a reason to exceed the cap.

Compare a bundle with the purchases you planned
A bundle is a personal saving only when its contents replace purchases you already intended to make. Compare each option by total checkout cost, including tax and shipping, and check that the game or membership included is genuinely wanted.

Do not count the full advertised saving if you would not have bought every included item. A lower-priced console plus only your planned games can cost less than a bundle with a headline discount.

Check digital, physical, sale, and refurbished prices
Digital is not automatically cheaper. Nintendo says new Nintendo-published digital titles exclusive to Switch 2 have different MSRPs from physical versions beginning with May 2026 preorders. Retailers set their own prices, and prices vary by title. Compare the same game in both formats at checkout, allowing for shipping and any resale value that actually applies to you. - Look at Nintendo Store sales: Nintendo says digital software sales and refurbished physical games and hardware are often available there for less than new items.
- Compare retailer prices: Check the exact model, game edition, condition, delivery cost, and return terms rather than comparing headline prices alone.
- Review refurbished terms: Confirm the item’s condition, warranty or return policy, and total checkout cost before buying.
- Wait on non-urgent games: Keep games on a shortlist and buy when they fit the budget. Do not add an unwanted game just to reach a shipping or discount threshold.

Keep optional extras out of the target unless needed
Do not automatically add storage, accessories, or a membership to the console budget. For example, Nintendo Store listed a Samsung microSD Express Card 256GB for Switch 2 at $59.99 when accessed October 5, 2026; it is an optional purchase, not a requirement for every buyer. Nintendo Store listing
If a bundle or purchase includes a membership, check its term and renewal date. For the announced three-month membership in the Switch Sports Resort bundle, Nintendo says it auto-renews unless canceled. Add an ongoing subscription to your budget only if you want the service beyond the included term.

Use a checkout checklist before buying
- Does the cart contain the console and games from your original list?
- Is the bundle cheaper than buying only those wanted items separately?
- Have you included tax, shipping, and any nonreturnable digital purchase?
- For refurbished items, have you checked condition and return terms?
- For an included membership, have you recorded the renewal date and decided whether to continue it?
- Does the final total stay within the cap you set?
