Use Google Maps to find places with recorded wheelchair-accessibility details and to create a shareable collection; use Apple Maps on iPhone to save and share an individual place, including a note as text. What you can see depends on the information recorded, your location, and the app and device you use.
Find wheelchair-accessibility details in Google Maps
Google Maps can show recorded wheelchair-accessibility attributes for a place, including its entrance, toilets, seating, parking, and lift access. On iPhone or iPad, Google’s documented path is to open your profile menu, choose Settings, then App and display, and turn on Emphasise accessibility info. Search for a business or select it on the map; a wheelchair icon indicates that accessibility attributes are recorded. The setting names and steps may differ on other platforms or app versions. Google’s iPhone and iPad instructions cover the feature, and Google says wheelchair-accessible place information is available in certain countries only.
These are map records, not a guarantee that every location has complete or independently verified details. Confirm important specifics with the venue before relying on them for a visit.
Save and share a collection of places with Google Maps
To plan with another person, create a Google Maps list and share it. Google describes public lists as a way to curate local knowledge, with accessible museums and wheelchair-accessible restaurants as examples. Its guidance does not establish that recipients can edit a shared list, so do not assume it works as a jointly maintained collection. See Google’s overview of sharing Maps lists.

Save and share one place in Apple Maps on iPhone
- Open the place card for the location in Maps.
- Add the location to Places. You can add a personal note to the saved place.
- Share the place. Apple says your note appears as text with the shared link, but it is not saved in the recipient’s notes for that place.
This shares an individual location and note text; Apple’s cited iPhone guide does not describe a shared multi-place list or transfer of a jointly maintained notebook. Follow Apple’s steps for adding places and notes.

Make Maps easier to use with accessibility features
Google’s computer help covers screen readers and keyboard navigation, including moving around the map and selecting wheelchair-accessible transit routes. Its iPhone and iPad guidance also documents VoiceOver use and accessibility settings for places and routes. Because instructions vary by operating system, device, and app version, use the relevant iPhone and iPad guidance or computer guidance, and check your device’s accessibility settings.

What Google’s historical figures do—and don’t—tell you
In a May 21, 2020 announcement, Google reported that Maps had wheelchair-accessibility information for more than 15 million places, with contributions from more than 120 million Local Guides and others and more than 500 million accessibility updates. Google also said the Accessible Places rollout initially covered Australia, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States. These are historical figures and rollout details, not current totals or a current country-availability list. In that announcement, Google Maps Software Engineer Sasha Blair-Goldensohn wrote, “Anyone can contribute accessibility information to Google Maps.” Read Google’s 2020 announcement.
