ArchiveBox reads the URLs from standard input and creates local snapshots. You can also pipe the file into the command.
Prepare a URL list
Create a plain-text file such as urls_to_archive.txt, with one page URL per line:
https://example.com/
https://example.com/about
https://www.example.org/articleInstall and initialize ArchiveBox using the official instructions for your chosen setup before importing URLs. The supported platforms and installation steps can change by release; check the ArchiveBox Quickstart for current guidance.
Import the list from the terminal

Change to the ArchiveBox data directory—the directory for your archive.

Run:
archivebox add < urls_to_archive.txt -
When the command finishes, inspect the
archivedirectory or open the web interface configured for your installation.
An equivalent stdin-based form is:
cat urls_to_archive.txt | archivebox addThese commands submit the listed URLs for archiving; they do not, by themselves, ask ArchiveBox to crawl the pages’ links.
Use Docker or Docker Compose
If you use the container setup in the official Quickstart, pass the list on standard input as shown there:

docker compose run --rm -T archivebox add < your_urls.txtThe -i and -T flags in these examples preserve standard-input handling. Run the command from the directory that contains the list and is mounted or used as the ArchiveBox data directory, as appropriate for your setup.
Import bookmarks and feeds that contain URLs
A hand-written text list is not the only supported input shape. ArchiveBox’s Usage guide demonstrates providing URL-bearing content through standard input, including RSS or XML feeds and bookmark exports. For example:
archivebox add < ~/Downloads/bookmarks_export.html
archivebox add < ~/Downloads/pinboard_bookmarks.jsonThese examples parse the supplied content for URLs; they are not instructions to treat every input file as a plain one-URL-per-line list. The Quickstart also shows passing a feed URL directly to archivebox add. Consult the Usage guide for the current accepted input patterns.

Choose whether to follow links
For a list import, ArchiveBox archives the submitted URLs without requesting recursive link crawling. If you want it to also archive links one hop away from each submitted URL, add --depth=1:
archivebox add --depth=1 < urls_to_archive.txtThis broadens the run beyond the URLs in your file, so use it only when that extra scope is intended. See the depth documentation for details.
Find and understand the saved snapshots
ArchiveBox stores snapshots as files in the local archive. Depending on the page and enabled extractors, a snapshot may include formats such as HTML, PDF, PNG, JSON, or WARC; not every format is guaranteed for every URL. The Quickstart points to the archive directory for viewing archive data, and the repository documentation describes the local snapshot files.

Keep a backup of the full ArchiveBox collection, especially before upgrading. The project’s backup guidance recommends backing up the collection before an upgrade.

The command reports no URLs or imports nothing: confirm that the file path is correct, that it contains URLs, and that the shell is redirecting the intended file through
<. For Docker, check that the command uses the stdin-related flag shown for your container setup. -
ArchiveBox cannot find or use the archive: run the command from the correct data directory, or verify that your container’s data directory is mounted as intended.

You expected pages linked from each URL to be archived: a basic list import does not request link crawling. Use
--depth=1if one-hop link expansion is desired. -
A particular output format is missing: snapshot formats depend on the page and configured extractors. ArchiveBox does not promise every format for every URL.
