Call and await response.buffer() on a Puppeteer HTTPResponse:
const body = await response.buffer();
This gives you the response body as a Node.js Buffer in memory. To save it to disk, write that Buffer with Node.js filesystem APIs.
Get a response before reading its body
You need a Puppeteer HTTPResponse object first. For example, page.goto() resolves to the response for the navigation:
const response = await page.goto('https://example.com');
if (!response) {
throw new Error('Navigation did not produce an HTTP response');
}
const body = await response.buffer();
Other Puppeteer operations can also provide an HTTPResponse. Once you have the relevant response, call buffer() and await its promise before using the returned value.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Save the Buffer to a file
buffer() retrieves the body; it does not write a file. Use Node.js node:fs/promises to persist the result. This complete example writes the navigation response body to response.bin:
const response = await page.goto('https://example.com');
if (!response) {
throw new Error('Navigation did not produce an HTTP response');
}
const body = await response.buffer();
await import('node:fs/promises').then(({ writeFile }) =>
writeFile('response.bin', body)
);
If your project uses CommonJS, the equivalent filesystem import is const { writeFile } = require('node:fs/promises');; then call await writeFile('response.bin', body). Choose an extension and destination appropriate for the content you expect.

Check the response separately from reading its body
Obtaining a Buffer does not decide whether the HTTP request succeeded. Puppeteer’s HTTPResponse also provides status() and ok(). Check these when your application needs to reject unsuccessful responses:
const response = await page.goto('https://example.com');
if (!response) {
throw new Error('Navigation did not produce an HTTP response');
}
if (!response.ok()) {
throw new Error(`HTTP ${response.status()}`);
}
const body = await response.buffer();
The response object also exposes headers(), request(), and url() for metadata and request context. These checks are separate from reading the body.

Choose the body format you need
| Method | Result | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
buffer() |
Promise<Buffer> |
You need a Node.js Buffer of the response body. |
content() |
Promise<Uint8Array> |
A typed array is suitable for your code. |
text() |
Decoded UTF-8 text | You need a string; it throws if the content is not UTF-8. |
json() |
Parsed JSON value | You need parsed JSON; it throws if the body cannot be parsed by JSON.parse. |
Use buffer() when your next step expects a Buffer, such as writing bytes to a file. Select a text or JSON method only when that decoding or parsing is what you want.
Know what the Buffer does—and does not—guarantee
Puppeteer warns that the browser may re-encode the response body based on HTTP headers or other heuristics. Therefore, do not assume that the Buffer is guaranteed to be the untouched bytes transmitted on the wire. If exact preservation of a particular representation matters, verify that Puppeteer’s browser-provided body is suitable for that use case. See the Puppeteer HTTPResponse.buffer() reference.

Troubleshoot common problems
responseis null: The operation did not provide an HTTP response object. Check how the response is obtained before callingbuffer().- The body is used before it is ready:
buffer()is asynchronous. Await it, or handle its promise before passing the result to another operation. - The file was not created: Retrieving a Buffer does not persist it. Call a filesystem write operation such as
writeFile(), and ensure the destination path is usable by the process. - The response contains an error page: Reading the body does not validate the HTTP status. Check
ok()orstatus()before treating the body as a successful result. - Bytes differ from an expected wire representation: Browser handling can re-encode the body. Puppeteer does not promise the returned Buffer is always untouched wire data.
text()orjson()fails: The body may not be valid UTF-8 text or parseable JSON, respectively. Usebuffer()when you need the body bytes instead.
Or skip the browser setup
