You can run a 24/7 sleep sounds livestream from an Indian laptop by looping audio and visuals in OBS, sending the feed to YouTube through a verified channel, and maintaining a stable upload connection and power supply. First clear the rights to every sound and image, then test the actual loop as an unlisted stream before going public. A laptop-based setup gives you control, but it depends on the laptop, home internet and electricity continuing to work.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel that is verified and has had no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. YouTube’s live-streaming getting-started guidance explains eligibility.
- A laptop running OBS Studio, with your sleep audio and any accompanying visual files stored locally where practical.
- Permission to stream and archive every audio and visual element you use.
- An internet connection whose sustained upload capacity can support the selected encoder bitrate, plus enough power and cooling for your specific laptop and surroundings.
YouTube does not require expensive equipment to livestream. That does not establish that any particular laptop can safely or reliably run indefinitely: the available official guidance does not set a universal laptop endurance, cooling, temperature or UPS specification for this use in India.
Choose and prepare the sleep-sounds loop
One file or a playlist
For a simple repeating bed of sound, use a single media file and enable looping in OBS. OBS Media Source supports formats including MP3, AAC, MP4 and WebM; its Media Sources guide describes the source options. If you want several tracks or changing visuals, OBS VLC Video can play a playlist and has loop-playlist enabled by default; VLC must be installed for that source type.

If your audio track is short, listen through the loop transition: a click, abrupt pause or sudden volume change can be disruptive in a sleep stream. If visuals are part of the stream, check that they also repeat as intended and that any transitions are not jarring.

Confirm usage rights, including for the replay
Use only audio and visuals you have permission to transmit live and, if YouTube saves an archive, to make available as a replay. India’s Copyright Act definitions cover sound recordings and communication to the public, while the Copyright Office describes infringement exceptions as limited in its exceptions information. Neither a “royalty-free” label nor a track’s availability online by itself establishes permission for livestreaming, monetization, every territory or an archived video; review the license terms for your specific use. This is practical rights guidance, not a legal determination about an individual track.
Configure OBS and YouTube
- Verify channel eligibility. In YouTube Studio, confirm that the channel is verified and can livestream. YouTube’s rule is no live-streaming restriction during the preceding 90 days.
- Create the encoder stream. In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, choose encoder streaming, set the stream destination and obtain the stream key. Treat the key like a password: do not show it on screen or share it. Enter it in OBS’s stream settings, using YouTube’s recommended RTMPS connection where available. Use the Live Control Room’s current labels and prompts, which can change.
- Add the media. In OBS, add a Media Source for one looped file, or a VLC Video source for a playlist if VLC is installed. Enable looping for the single source; for a playlist, verify loop-playlist is enabled. Arrange the audio and visual sources in the scene and confirm the OBS audio meter responds during playback.
- Choose conservative, stable output settings. YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval (not more than four seconds), H.264, H.265 or AV1 video, and AAC or MP3 audio. For H.264 at 720p30, YouTube’s recommended video bitrate is 3 Mbps. This is an encoder recommendation, not a guarantee about the upload capacity of an Indian home connection. - Match quality to reliable upload. Start with 720p30 if that is sufficient for the visual loop. Higher resolution is useful only if the image benefits and the connection can sustain the selected bitrate without interruptions. Measure upload capacity and leave operating margin for normal fluctuations; YouTube says, “We recommend running a speed test to test your upload bitrate.” There is no single household upload-speed figure that guarantees a stable stream at every bitrate.
- Run an unlisted test. Before a public launch, test with content resembling the real stream, including its sound and motion. Check the YouTube preview, listen for clipping or silence, confirm the video is moving or looping as intended, inspect stream-health messages, and decide whether the archive behaves as you expect. YouTube recommends test streams and ongoing quality monitoring in its live-streaming tips.
- Start the public stream and monitor it. Begin streaming from OBS and confirm the incoming feed in Live Control Room before making it public. Keep an eye on stream health and the local setup rather than assuming a 24-hour session will remain healthy without checks.
Plan for a laptop and home connection in India
Upload connection
Choose the bitrate from the connection you can sustain, not the advertised download speed. A speed test is a useful snapshot, but it does not guarantee that upload will remain steady all day. Ethernet can be worth trying if it is available and more stable in your home; Wi-Fi is not categorically unsuitable, so test the actual setup.
The National Informatics Centre’s webcast services page specifies 2–4 Mbps per stream for its agency webcast context. That figure is not a YouTube household recommendation and should not be used as a minimum for your own stream.

Power, heat and unattended operation
Keep the laptop on a hard, ventilated surface, avoid blocking its vents, and use the manufacturer’s guidance for long periods of operation. Consider how your home handles power interruptions and whether you can check the machine and connection when needed. No universal safe operating temperature, laptop life rating or UPS size is established for this scenario; device model, workload, room conditions and local power reliability vary.

Troubleshooting a sleep-sounds livestream

Do it yourself or use a cloud loop
Running OBS locally gives you direct control over the scene and media, but the laptop, internet connection and power at home remain part of the streaming chain. A hosted encoder changes where the loop runs; it does not remove the need to choose rights-cleared material or set up YouTube correctly.
