You can stream rain sounds on YouTube from OBS, but a computer-based 24/7 broadcast depends on uninterrupted power, internet, and a stable encoder. Set up a verified YouTube channel, use rain audio and visuals you have rights to stream, match OBS output to measured upload capacity, and test before going public. One important limit: YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured as an archive, so a single continuous 24-hour stream is a poor choice if you need a replay.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel that is verified and has no live-streaming restrictions within the preceding 90 days. YouTube supports streaming with an encoder such as OBS. YouTube: Get started with live streaming
- OBS Studio, an internet connection with reliable outbound upload capacity, and a computer that can encode your chosen resolution and frame rate. OBS is free and open-source. OBS help portal
- A rain recording and visual you own or are licensed to use for livestreaming, including commercial use if that applies to your channel.
- A plan for outages and archives. OBS streams from your computer, so local power, network, and computer interruptions can stop the broadcast.
YouTube’s published streaming guidance does not specify a special OBS configuration for India. Test the connection at the actual place and time you intend to stream: local provider performance and shared-network load vary.
Set up the YouTube stream and connect OBS
- Confirm live-stream access. Check that your channel is verified and is not subject to a live-streaming restriction. If you are new to encoder streaming, allow time for YouTube’s account setup and any access activation required by your channel.
- Create or schedule the broadcast. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create a stream or schedule one. Choose the stream details and visibility appropriate for your test and eventual broadcast.
- Copy the connection details. In the stream setup, copy the server URL and stream key. In OBS, open Settings → Stream, select YouTube as the service, and enter the connection details. If OBS offers a direct account connection, you can use it instead; otherwise, use the server URL and key provided by YouTube.
- Protect the stream key. Treat it like a password. Do not show it in a screenshot, recording, or public post. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio before continuing.
- Add your scene sources. In OBS, add the rain visual (for example, a still image or a gentle loop) and the audio source. Check that the audio meter moves and that the visual fills the intended frame without unwanted borders or overlays.
Choose resolution, bitrate, and encoder settings
Set OBS output to a quality your computer and measured upload connection can sustain. YouTube’s current H.264 encoder guidance recommends the following bitrates for these specific output modes; they are platform recommendations, not a guarantee of performance on an individual Indian connection. In OBS, open Settings → Output and configure the encoder’s rate control as CBR for RTMP/RTMPS. Set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds; YouTube says not to exceed 4 seconds. In Settings → Video, set the output resolution and frame rate you intend to send. Use H.264 if following the bitrate figures above, since those figures are codec-specific.

Do not choose a bitrate from download speed or a speed-test headline alone. Measure outbound upload performance at the streaming location, preferably at the time of day you plan to broadcast. Leave headroom below the connection’s available upload capacity for fluctuations and other devices. If the upload rate varies, reduce resolution or bitrate and test again rather than running at the edge of capacity.
Check audio rights before going live
Rain sounds found online are not automatically free to reuse. Use your own field recording or audio and visual assets whose licenses explicitly cover livestreaming and the intended commercial use. Keep the original files, license terms, source information, and any permission correspondence.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A stream may be interrupted or terminated when a match is detected. Even if you have a license, a rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist for the licensed material to play without a claim-related interruption. Confirm this requirement with the rights holder before relying on that audio for a long broadcast. YouTube: Copyright issues with live streams

- Measure upload speed on the same network and at the location where the computer will run. Account for household or workplace network use and leave bandwidth headroom.
- In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, use the stream preview to check that YouTube is receiving the OBS feed. YouTube recommends a reliable network and advises monitoring stream health. YouTube: Fix live streaming issues
- Listen to the preview. Confirm that the rain audio is audible but not clipping, that it loops cleanly, and that there is no silence or unexpected desktop audio.
- Check the visual for black frames, unwanted cursor movement, notifications, or a loop transition that is distracting.
- Start the encoder in OBS and confirm the preview appears in Live Control Room. Then start the broadcast from the control room if required by your setup.
- Once live, check the public watch page from another device, verify sound and picture, and continue monitoring stream health. Keep a local recording if you need your own backup and have sufficient disk space.
Plan around YouTube’s 12-hour archive limit
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. It recommends recording a local archive as a backup. Therefore, do not rely on one continuous 24-hour OBS session to produce a complete YouTube replay. If a replay matters, schedule separate sessions shorter than 12 hours and keep local recordings where storage permits. YouTube’s explanation published August 12, 2026 says qualified watch hours can come from public long-form videos and archived livestreams; unarchived livestreams do not count. That is not a promise of monetization, eligibility, or earnings. Keep archive status and the channel’s current Partner Program requirements in mind when choosing a broadcast schedule. Keep a local OBS stream running overnight
A local OBS setup is a do-it-yourself option, but it relies on the equipment and connection at the streaming location. Check that automatic sleep will not suspend the computer, keep OBS open, and avoid scheduled updates or restarts during the broadcast. A wired Ethernet connection can reduce uncertainty on the computer-to-router link, although it cannot fix an ISP-side outage. A UPS sized for the computer and router may cover brief power interruptions; it is not a solution for a long outage.

- Use a stable scene with only the sources you need, reducing unnecessary processing.
- Check available disk space before enabling local recording, and choose a recording format and destination you can manage.
- Do not assume the stream is still healthy because OBS remains open. Check YouTube’s stream health and the public watch page periodically.
- For long-term scheduling, account for ending one session and starting the next before the archive threshold. A manual handoff requires someone or something to manage the transition.

Troubleshoot common problems

India-specific practical checks
There is no India-only OBS setting established by YouTube’s general streaming guidance. Test at the actual streaming site, check upload rather than download capacity, and repeat the test under the network load you expect overnight. If power continuity is a concern, estimate the computer and router load before choosing a UPS; runtime depends on the connected equipment and the UPS capacity. No particular Indian ISP, plan, UPS model, or current price is established here.
