You can run a continuous Indian music stream by using a Hetzner VPS to host an encoder such as FFmpeg, which sends a prepared audio-and-video program to YouTube through your channel’s stream URL and key. The VPS keeps the encoder running when your own computer is off, but it does not provide music rights or guarantee uninterrupted streaming. No specific Hetzner plan has been validated for this workload, so test your chosen server, encoder settings, and full rights-cleared playlist before relying on it.
What you need to set up first
The VPS is the server-side part of the system: it reads your prepared media, encodes or packages the output, and sends it to YouTube. YouTube receives that feed and broadcasts it as a live stream. A prepared playlist paired with a static or changing visual is one practical way to present prerecorded music; it is not a setup certified by YouTube or Hetzner.
- A Hetzner server with enough CPU, memory, storage, and sustained outbound capacity for your chosen stream profile.
- An encoder such as FFmpeg, configured to send output to YouTube.
- A finite playlist of checked media files and a visual component.
- A YouTube channel with a live stream created in YouTube Studio.
- Written rights for every recording and composition used, covering live streaming in the territories where you intend to broadcast.
Clear music rights before you schedule a stream
Having a file or a license to play a song privately does not establish that you may broadcast it worldwide on YouTube. YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility on the provider to have the necessary rights for exploitation of the live content throughout the world, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers, and other royalty participants. The applicable permissions depend on your actual catalog and territories; get written permission and professional advice for your use case.

Check that permissions cover both the sound recording and the underlying composition, live streaming, the territories you plan to reach, and any replay or promotional use you expect. Ask rights owners whether they can add your channel to their Content ID allowlist, and confirm that this has been done before depending on an unattended broadcast. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; if identified material remains, it may interrupt or terminate the stream. A license alone may not prevent that interruption if the owner has not allowlisted your channel.

YouTube Creator Music is not a clearance route for a continuous live broadcast: YouTube says Creator Music tracks may be licensed or revenue-shared in long-form videos, but not in live streams or Shorts. Track terms can also vary by territory.
Choose a Hetzner server by testing the actual workload
There is no validated Hetzner Cloud or dedicated-server size for a particular resolution, codec, and continuous music-stream workload here. YouTube’s encoder guidance does not certify a server plan. Before buying, check the current server’s CPU performance, memory, storage, region, outbound traffic allowance, and applicable terms; then run the exact encoder profile for a sustained test and watch for overload or unstable output.

Do not treat documentation for Hetzner managed web hosting as the terms for Hetzner Cloud servers. Likewise, do not assume a server advertised for general use will sustain a particular stream profile. Choose resolution and bitrate against measured server capacity and stable outbound throughput.
Set up the stream from YouTube Studio to the VPS
- Prepare and inspect your media. Make a finite playlist from files you are authorized to stream. Keep original files, license records, track metadata, and backups. Play through the playlist before launch to catch missing files, silence, incompatible media, or abrupt transitions.
- Create the live stream in YouTube Studio. Open the Live Control Room and create a stream. Copy its Live server URL and stream key into the destination settings of your encoder. Treat the key as a password: do not publish it or include it in public logs, and rotate it if it is exposed.
- Choose an encoder profile YouTube supports. YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists RTMP or RTMPS transport; it recommends RTMPS, which encrypts the connection to Google’s servers. Supported video codecs listed in that guidance are H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1, up to 60 fps. Use constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval; YouTube recommends two seconds and says the interval should not exceed four seconds.
- Set audio and video deliberately. For stereo audio, YouTube lists AAC or MP3, 44.1 kHz, and 128 Kbps. Select a video resolution and bitrate that your chosen server can sustain continuously. Use YouTube’s current bitrate guidance for the resolution and frame rate you select rather than guessing a target or assuming a particular Hetzner plan will handle it.
- Run a representative test before announcing the stream. Test with the actual kind of music, movement, visual, codec, resolution, and bitrate you plan to use. Check the Live Control Room preview and stream health. Start at a modest profile the server can sustain, then increase quality only after a stable test.
- Start the encoder with the playlist and visual. Configure the encoder to read the checked media sequence, provide the chosen static or changing visual, and send its continuous output to the stream URL using the stream key. The exact encoder configuration depends on how your media is prepared and which encoder build you use; verify the result in YouTube’s preview rather than assuming a playlist configuration is correct.
Keep the process supervised and plan for recovery
A VPS can keep an encoder running while your home computer is off, but a process can still exit, a connection can fail, or YouTube can drop the stream. Use a service manager or equivalent process supervision, alert if the encoder exits or output is lost for an extended period, and document how to restart it. A restart policy can recover from some failures; it does not guarantee a continuous broadcast. Test recovery end to end, including that the encoder reconnects and YouTube receives a healthy signal again.

Decide how to handle the archive
YouTube says a live stream shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived and recommends keeping a local archive backup. A stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. An uninterrupted 24/7 event is therefore not a dependable way to create a complete YouTube replay. If an archive matters, record locally or plan shorter broadcast sessions, and verify the outcome rather than promising a full replay.
Understand monetization limits
YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams. YouTube expects monetized channel content to be original and authentic; reused material without significant original commentary, modification, or added value can put channel-level monetization at risk. A simple loop of music should not be treated as guaranteed eligible for monetization.

YouTube reported an average uplift of over 20% in in-stream ad revenue per hour for channels that enabled automatic live mid-roll ads compared with channels that did not, averaged across 207 countries in January 2024.
