YouTube Live can automatically pin tagged products one after another, rotating every 60 seconds. It does not detect product categories: to run demos category by category, arrange the products in the desired sequence in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room before the stream.

How category-based product rotation works

YouTube’s documented feature rotates through the products tagged to a live stream in sequence. The creator supplies that sequence; the feature does not identify category labels or group products automatically. For example, if you want to demo accessories, then appliances, then home goods, arrange the tagged products in that order.

You can pin one product manually when you want to control what is featured at a particular moment, or enable automatic pinning to advance through tagged products. YouTube documents a 60-second interval for automatic rotation. That interval is time-based, not tied to the length of a demo.

Set up the stream’s product sequence

  1. Plan the run of show. Write down the categories and the products you will demonstrate in each. Put every product into the order you want viewers to encounter it; YouTube’s instructions describe a product sequence, not category-aware automation.
  2. Open the stream in Live Control Room. On a computer, go to YouTube Studio, select Create > Go live, and open the stream you are preparing.
  3. Add products in the Shopping tab. Use the product picker to tag items for the stream. YouTube says a live stream can have up to 30 tagged and rearranged items. The order in the picker is the order presented to viewers.
  4. Choose how products are featured. Pin a selected product manually for direct control, or enable the Live Control Room option to automatically pin tagged products one after another. The documented automatic interval is 60 seconds; the multiple-product pin feature is documented for desktop.
  5. Rehearse against the rotation interval. If a product needs more than a minute, plan what the host will say or show when the pin advances. The cited YouTube guidance does not describe a category-specific timer or a setting to change the 60-second interval.
  6. Finish edits ahead of time. YouTube recommends completing tagging, rearranging, and removing products at least 30 minutes before going live. Changes made during a broadcast may not appear for viewers who are already watching.

Choose manual pinning or automatic rotation

Control Best fit What viewers see
Manual pinning The host wants to decide exactly when the featured product changes. The product the creator selects is pinned.
Automatic sequential pinning The host wants tagged products to advance without manually changing the pin. Tagged products are pinned one after another, rotating every 60 seconds.

In either case, the tagged-product list remains useful to viewers: the Shopping button or panel exposes the products associated with the stream. Shopping features and product availability can vary by viewer location and creator eligibility.

Check eligibility and product presentation

  • Your own store: Eligible creators can tag products from their own store.
  • Other brands: Tagging other brands’ products is subject to YouTube Shopping eligibility, and tags are limited to selected retailers.
  • Viewer location: A tagged item’s display depends on whether it is available to viewers in supported countries or regions.
  • Relevance and safe use: YouTube says tagged products should be prominent, safely used, and meaningfully related to the live stream.
  • Disclosures: Account for contractual obligations and make applicable paid product placement and endorsement disclosures.

Eligibility, regional availability, interface labels, and item limits may change. Check your account and current Live Control Room before the broadcast.

When a product drop is a better fit

If one of the demos is a timed reveal of a new product, YouTube’s product-drop workflow may be relevant. It is separate from ordinary product rotation.

  • YouTube recommends setting up a publish-date drop at least a week ahead and checking that release times are consistent in UTC.

Use the Live Control Room to tag and reveal the drop as appropriate. These product-drop conditions do not apply to the standard sequential pinning workflow.

Common problems and fixes

  • Products appear in the wrong category order: Reorder the tagged items in the Shopping tab to match the planned run of show. YouTube uses the product sequence, not category metadata.
  • The pin changes while the host is still explaining a product: The automatic interval is 60 seconds. Rehearse a shorter explanation, adapt the demo to the timed change, or pin products manually to choose when to switch.
  • Viewers do not see an edit made during the live stream: YouTube warns that some existing viewers may not see changes made during the broadcast. Make product-list edits at least 30 minutes before going live.
  • A product is missing or unavailable to some viewers: Check creator eligibility, supported retailer status, product relevance, and availability in viewers’ locations. A tag does not guarantee display everywhere.

Or let it run in the cloud

StreamNeo is for keeping an uploaded-video YouTube stream live 24/7; it does not replace Live Control Room’s shopping controls for a hosted product demo. To use it, upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The cloud loops the uploaded video, so no computer or home connection has to stay on.
