Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallCrashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteYou generally can’t uninstall an already-installed SHIELD TV system update from the normal Settings menus. NVIDIA’s consumer guide explains how to check for and install upgrades, but does not document a rollback control. A factory reset erases data and settings; NVIDIA does not describe it as restoring an earlier system version.
The right next step depends on what changed: an app update, a failed download, and a successfully installed SHIELD system update each require different actions.
First, identify what updated
- The SHIELD system: This is the device’s firmware or operating-system update. NVIDIA’s consumer guide documents installing upgrades, not uninstalling them. NVIDIA’s SHIELD TV User Guide gives the manual update-check path as Settings > Device Preferences > About > System upgrade. Menu labels can vary by model and software version.
- An app or launcher: This is separate from the SHIELD system. Check the app’s information or settings for an uninstall-updates option, if one is available. Neither NVIDIA nor Google guarantees that this control exists for every preinstalled app or software version. See Google’s Android TV app help and NVIDIA’s app-management guidance.
- An update that failed before installation: NVIDIA documents a way to clear possibly corrupted downloaded update data and retry. That does not reverse an update that installed successfully.
If a particular app or launcher changed
Open the app’s information or settings and look for an option to uninstall updates. If present, it applies to that app only; it does not downgrade SHIELD system software. The available controls depend on the app and device software, so don’t assume a built-in launcher will offer this option.
If the option is absent, use the app’s available settings or uninstall it if the device permits. For a preinstalled app, ordinary uninstall may not be available. Google’s guidance covers app removal generally, not a universal way to revert every preinstalled app to an earlier version.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
If the SHIELD system update installed successfully
There is no consumer-facing rollback procedure in NVIDIA’s current SHIELD TV guide. The guide shows how to check for an upgrade at Settings > Device Preferences > About > System upgrade, but does not provide a menu option to remove an installed upgrade.
NVIDIA’s developer documentation describes returning a device from a developer image to a consumer stock image by downloading and flashing the latest consumer recovery image. That instruction is specific to the developer-image context; it does not establish a general method for installing an older release on every SHIELD model. See NVIDIA Developer’s SHIELD Developer OS Images page and NVIDIA’s SHIELD open-source documentation. Do not use an image or procedure unless NVIDIA’s current instructions match your exact device.

If the update failed to install
For an installation failure that may be caused by a corrupted downloaded image, NVIDIA’s troubleshooting guidance suggests deleting the local OTA update data, rebooting, and trying the download and installation again. It identifies the folder as LocalNVIDIAAppOTA. This is a retry procedure, not a way to undo a completed update. File-manager access and how the path appears may differ on current software; follow the current device instructions rather than assuming the folder is accessible in the same way on every SHIELD.
Why a factory reset won’t roll back the update
NVIDIA’s reset instructions use Settings > Device Preferences > Reset, followed by Erase everything. A reset wipes device data and settings. NVIDIA notes that some Google-account-associated data may be recoverable, but settings are removed; it does not say the reset restores an earlier SHIELD system release. Read NVIDIA’s SHIELD TV User Guide before resetting, and back up anything you need to keep.

| A system update failed before installation | Use NVIDIA’s failed-download guidance to clear local OTA data, reboot, and retry. | Enables another download and installation attempt; it does not roll back firmware. |
| A system update installed successfully | NVIDIA’s consumer guide provides no Settings-menu rollback. Consult current instructions for your exact device before considering image flashing. | No general older-release downgrade is established by the cited instructions. |
| You want to erase personal data and settings | Use the factory-reset path, after backing up anything important. | Erases user data and settings; it is not documented as a system downgrade. |
