To roll back SteamOS on Steam Frame, open its built-in recovery menu and select Previous B. Fully power off the headset first, then use the AUX-and-power button sequence to reach the menu. Valve says this option returns the device to its previous known-good OS version while retaining user data such as installed games and saves.

Hold the power button for 10 seconds to fully shut down the headset. Valve recommends keeping Steam Frame plugged into power during this process.

Press and hold the AUX button, then press the power button to turn the headset on.

Select Previous B, the second option from the top. This is Valve’s documented Steam Frame rollback choice. SteamOS Recovery and Troubleshooting
Use the Steam Frame button sequence above rather than instructions for another SteamOS device; Valve’s recovery steps differ by device.

What “Previous B” does—and what it does not establish
Valve describes the recovery option as returning the device to the previous known-good operating-system version while retaining user data, including installed games and saves. The instructions do not name the exact build that will be restored or say that it will be a particular SteamOS beta channel. The specific destination therefore depends on the device’s recovery state; Valve’s cited instructions do not establish more than “previous known-good” OS.
The documentation describes the intended behavior, not a guarantee that every recovery attempt will succeed or preserve data under every failure condition. If data is especially important, avoid choosing an erase or re-image option as a substitute for the rollback.

If the recovery menu does not appear
The Previous B procedure is performed from Steam Frame’s built-in menu; it does not require USB media or a cable. If the headset cannot boot to that menu, Valve documents separate recovery alternatives in its SteamOS Installation and Repair instructions. Those include booting from a prepared USB recovery drive and, for Steam Frame, QDL flashing over USB-C. These are fallback repair or reinstallation procedures, not the ordinary beta rollback. In particular, re-imaging wipes user information and installed content, while Repair SteamOS attempts to preserve games and personal content.
