To stop future recurring debits, revoke the active UPI AutoPay mandate in the UPI app or bank interface that manages it. Open the mandate, choose Revoke or Cancel, complete any requested UPI PIN authentication, and check that its status changes. If you also want to end the service, cancel the subscription separately with the merchant or subscription provider.
How do I cancel UPI AutoPay or revoke a UPI mandate?
A UPI AutoPay mandate is the authorization that lets a merchant request recurring debits from your bank account. To end that authorization, manage the mandate itself—not just the app or payment method associated with it.
- Open the UPI app or bank interface where the mandate is listed.
- Look for AutoPay, UPI AutoPay, Mandates, or Manage Bank Accounts.
- Open the live or active mandate you want to stop.
- Choose Revoke or Cancel, then authenticate as prompted. A payer-initiated mandate operation requires the UPI PIN.
- Return to the mandate list and confirm its status reflects the change.
NPCI’s 7 October 2025 circular requires payer UPI apps and banks to support mandate lifecycle management—including viewing, revoking, pausing, and modifying mandates—through Manage Bank Accounts or a dedicated UPI AutoPay section. Google Pay India steps
- Open Google Pay and tap the profile menu.
- Select AutoPay, then open Live.
- Select the mandate and tap Cancel autopay.
- Enter your UPI PIN when prompted and check the mandate status.
Google Pay says a revoked mandate can no longer be used by the merchant to debit the account under that authorization. These steps apply to Google Pay India; do not assume other UPI apps use the same menus. Google Pay’s recurring-payment instructions.

Will cancelling UPI AutoPay cancel my subscription?
Not necessarily. Revoking a mandate stops future debits under that payment authorization; it does not by itself confirm that a subscription or service contract has ended. Cancel the service separately through the merchant, app, or billing platform if you no longer want it.
For Google subscriptions, Google directs users to Subscriptions & services to manage or cancel recurring subscriptions. If the cancellation option is not available there, follow the instructions for managing the subscription with the product provider. Google Payments’ subscription guidance.

Google Play India lists UPI AutoPay as a payment method for eligible recurring subscriptions, including YouTube Premium and Google One. For an app charge, check both the subscription account and your UPI mandate list: they control different things. Google Play’s India payment-method information.

Why might a mandate not cancel?
The mandate is missing from the list
Update the app and inspect its AutoPay, UPI AutoPay, or Manage Bank Accounts section. Mandate navigation varies, so the exact Google Pay path may not apply to your bank or another UPI app. NPCI’s circular sets out where the lifecycle-management capability should be exposed, but individual interfaces can differ.

It is a loan-related mandate
Google Pay says loan-related AutoPay mandates cannot be cancelled inside Google Pay. Contact the merchant for its cancellation process. Google Pay’s AutoPay guidance.
The linked bank account is inactive
Google Pay says the linked bank account must be active to cancel a mandate there. If it is inactive, reactivate it before trying again.

A debit has already been initiated
NPCI states: “No, once the payment is initiated, it cannot be stopped.” Submit a transaction grievance through the participating bank’s UPI app and contact the merchant about service cancellation or a refund; do not assume revoking the mandate will reverse a payment already in progress. What does not revoke an existing mandate?
- Deleting the merchant’s app is not the same as revoking the UPI mandate.
- Removing a UPI ID or payment method is not a substitute for cancelling the mandate itself.
- Cancelling a subscription does not necessarily revoke the payment authorization.
- Pausing a mandate is distinct from revoking it; choose revoke or cancel when you want to end the authorization.
