To return an ebook bought through the Google Play Books app or the Books tab in Google Play Store, submit a refund request through Google Play. Google’s general policy allows ebook requests within seven days of purchase; different rules apply to rentals, defective books, audiobooks, bundles, gifts, and customers in some regions.
Check which refund rule applies
Google’s book refund policy covers purchases made through the Google Play Books app or the Books tab in Google Play Store—not books bought from another retailer. For a purchase from another seller, contact that seller. Google Play Books refund policy

Standard ebooks
Google’s general policy says, “You may request a refund within 7 days of purchase, except for rentals of ebooks for which all sales are final.” A request is not a guarantee of approval. If an ebook does not work, Google’s general policy allows a request within 65 days of purchase. EEA and UK ebooks
For customers in the European Economic Area (EEA) and the United Kingdom, Google retains the ordinary seven-day ebook request window. The regional policy also says a defective, unavailable, or misdescribed ebook may be submitted for a refund at any time. Audiobooks, bundles, gifts, and group purchases
- Audiobooks: Google’s general policy treats audiobook sales as final, except that customers in South Korea may request a refund within seven days if they have not started listening. Under the EEA/UK policy, defective, unavailable, or misdescribed audiobooks may be submitted for a refund at any time. Google Play Books refund policy
- Ebook bundles: A refund request must cover the entire bundle, be made within seven days, and meet the condition that no more than two books have been downloaded or exported. Google Play Help: refunds for books
- Multi-quantity purchases: For purchases such as “Buy for groups,” Google may refund some requests made within 14 days, depending on the publisher. Google Play Help: refunds for books
- Gifts: For a gift bought through Google, only the purchaser can receive a refund, and the gift must be unredeemed. If it was bought from a third-party retailer, contact that retailer. Google Play Help: refunds for books
Request a refund for a Google Play book
- Open Google’s Request a refund flow and look for the purchase.
- If the order does not appear, open play.google.com in a browser. Select your profile picture, then Payments & subscriptions and Budget & order history.
- Find the book order and select Report a problem.
- Choose the option that best describes the issue, complete the form, state that you are requesting a refund, and submit it.
- If you still cannot find the order, check whether you bought it under another Google Account.
Google’s refund instructions say a decision usually arrives within one day, but can take up to four days. Submitting multiple requests for the same transaction will not speed up the decision. Google Play Help: request a refund Google Play Help: refund status

Google may remove the ebook or audiobook from your library after issuing a refund. You may then lose access to reading or listening to that title. Google Play Books refund policy
