If a PS5 game you own shows a padlock or will not start, sign in to the PlayStation account that has access to it, then go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses. Select the relevant game or licenses and follow the prompts. You can also highlight the game on the home screen or in Game Library, press Options, and select Restore License. PlayStation says restoring licenses will not affect saved data.
Restore licenses on PS5
- Sign in to the PlayStation account that bought the game or has the entitlement to play it.
- Open Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses.
- Select the game or licenses you want to restore and follow the on-screen prompts.
- Alternatively, highlight the game on the home screen or in Game Library, press Options, and choose Restore License.
- When the process finishes, try launching the game again.
These steps refresh the console’s license check; they do not repair a game installation or create ownership of a game. See PlayStation’s guide to restoring licenses.
Why a purchased PS5 game may be locked
A lock icon does not by itself mean that a purchase has disappeared. The game may be tied to a different account, accessed through a PlayStation Plus entitlement, or shared from another account whose console-sharing setting is not enabled on this PS5. A temporary service or software issue can also interfere with license confirmation.

Check the account and purchase
Make sure the signed-in account is the one that purchased the game. Review that account’s transaction history and confirm the purchase completed successfully. If the game is not listed as a purchase for that account, check whether another account owns it or whether access comes through PlayStation Plus.

Check PlayStation Plus access
If you claimed or downloaded the game through PlayStation Plus, confirm that the subscription is active and that the game remains available through the relevant PlayStation Plus offering. Access to a subscription game depends on the applicable subscription entitlement and the game’s current availability; restoring licenses cannot extend either one.
Check another account’s console sharing
If a different account owns the game, that account must enable Console Sharing and Offline Play on this PS5 for other users of the console to access its eligible purchased and downloaded games. On the owner’s account, open Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Console Sharing and Offline Play, then choose Enable.

Console Sharing and Offline Play can be enabled on one PS5 at a time. It is automatically allowed on the first PS5 used to sign in; if moving to another console, disable it on the previous PS5 before enabling it on the replacement. If the old console is no longer accessible, PlayStation offers remote deactivation of all devices, with a stated limit of once every six months. The enabled console’s users can play the enabling account’s purchased and downloaded games and media offline, and may use some PlayStation Plus benefits. If the game remains locked
- Check PlayStation service status. If a relevant service alert is active, wait for service to return and try again.
- Install available PS5 system software updates. Then retry the game.
- Restore the licenses using the settings route above, even if the account appears to have the right entitlement.
- Try Safe Mode troubleshooting. For persistent locked-game or download issues, PlayStation recommends Clear Cache and Rebuild Database. Follow the current PlayStation game-download troubleshooting guide for the exact Safe Mode steps.
- Contact PlayStation Support if the problem continues. Include any error code or message, what you were doing when it appeared, steps to reproduce it, and the time you tried to access the game.
Fix error CE-109258-5
PlayStation identifies CE-109258-5 as a server connection failure that prevented confirmation of a content license. The error can be temporary. Follow PlayStation’s CE-109258-5 guidance:

- Check PlayStation service status.
- Restart the PS5.
- Turn off the router and modem for at least five minutes, then restart them.
- Try restoring licenses again.
