If you cannot use that menu, power the phone off, turn it on, and hold Volume down when the Samsung logo appears. Safe mode temporarily disables third-party apps so you can check whether one is behind a problem.
Start a Samsung phone in Safe mode from the Power menu
Use this method when the phone is responsive enough to open its Power menu. On many Galaxy phones, you can open it in either of these ways:
- Press and hold the Side and Volume down buttons together.
- Open the Quick panel and tap its Power icon.
If your model has a regular Power button, Samsung also describes opening the menu by pressing and holding that button.
- Open the Power menu.
- Touch and hold the on-screen Power off icon until the Safe mode option appears.
- Tap Safe mode and wait for the phone to restart.
- Check for the words Safe mode at the bottom of the screen.
Start Safe mode while the phone is powered off
If the Power menu method is unavailable or difficult to use, start from a fully powered-off phone:

- Turn on the phone.
- When the Samsung logo appears, press and hold Volume down.
- Keep holding the button through startup. Confirm that Safe mode appears at the lower left of the screen.
If the label does not appear, Samsung advises repeating the steps. Available screens, settings, and button arrangements can vary by model, carrier, and software version; these steps apply to many Galaxy devices, not necessarily every one. See Samsung’s Galaxy Safe mode instructions.
Use Safe mode to find out whether an app is causing the problem
Samsung says that in Safe mode, the device does not run third-party apps. Use the phone normally long enough to check whether the original symptom—such as freezing, crashing, lag, or a camera, audio, or network problem—returns. Samsung lists these among issues that downloaded apps may affect.

- The problem stops: A downloaded app is a likely cause. Start with apps you installed or updated around the time the problem began. Remove one likely app at a time, then use the phone again to see whether the symptom returns.
- The problem continues: A downloaded app may not be responsible. Samsung’s boot-loop guidance says a problem that persists in Safe mode is likely hardware-related and recommends having the device inspected by Samsung service. Persistent symptoms do not, by themselves, prove the cause.

Exit Safe mode
Restart the phone normally to return to standard operation. On screens that offer it, you can also open the Safe mode notification and tap Turn off. The phone should boot normally when Safe mode ends. Samsung’s Safe mode instructions note that available screens may vary by device and software.

Before considering a factory reset
A factory reset removes personal data and content, so do not use it as an early diagnostic step. Samsung recommends backing up personal data before resetting and treating a reset as a last resort after other troubleshooting. If the problem remains in Safe mode, consult Samsung’s boot and power troubleshooting guidance or arrange service rather than assuming a reset will fix it.
