1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesTo respond to a GST notice online, first identify the notice’s form number and procedure, then follow the response channel and deadline stated in that notice and the current instructions on the GST portal. There is no single reply form or universal deadline for every GST notice: for example, GSTN lists FORM GST ASMT-11 for a section 61 return-discrepancy notice and FORM GST RFD-09 for a refund show cause notice.
Identify the notice before drafting a reply
Read the full notice and note the details that determine what kind of response is required:
- Form number and legal or procedural category.
- Issuing authority and issue date.
- Relevant tax period.
- Discrepancies, allegations, or information requested.
- The response deadline printed in the notice.
- Filing channel and any authentication instructions specified for that notice.
GSTN’s forms listing distinguishes reply forms by procedure. Check the notice itself and current portal instructions rather than relying on a generic GST notice template or assuming every reply follows the same steps.
Choose the reply form that matches the procedure
| Notice or procedure | Taxpayer reply form | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Notice under section 61 intimating discrepancies in a return | FORM GST ASMT-11, listed by GSTN as the taxpayer’s reply form. GSTN forms listing | Confirm the notice is a section 61 return-discrepancy notice and follow its stated deadline and filing instructions. |
| Show cause notice in the refund process | FORM GST RFD-09, listed by GSTN as the taxpayer’s reply form. GSTN forms listing | Confirm the notice concerns the refund process and use the response instructions provided for that notice. |
| Another kind of GST notice | Not established by these examples; the appropriate form depends on the notice’s procedure. | Use the form and response method identified in the notice and the current official instructions for that procedure. |
A reply, payment, and appeal are not interchangeable actions. Do not assume that instructions for one apply to another; check what the notice actually asks you to do.

Prepare the response and supporting records
Before drafting, organize the notice alongside the records relevant to its period and issue. Depending on what is raised, these may include the relevant returns, invoices, ledgers, and other supporting documents. Compare the notice’s specific points with those records so your reply addresses the questions asked rather than supplying an unrelated general explanation.
Follow the response channel and authentication steps specified for the notice, checking the current portal instructions before filing. A single end-to-end portal menu path or authentication method is not established for all GST replies, so avoid relying on outdated navigation guidance.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Using the wrong form: ASMT-11 and RFD-09 correspond to different procedures. Verify the form and purpose stated in your notice.
- Assuming a universal deadline: Do not apply a deadline from another notice or a generic online guide. Use the deadline printed in your notice and verify the governing procedure.
- Replying before understanding the issue: Identify each discrepancy or request and gather the records that address it before submitting.
- Trusting a fixed portal route: Menu labels and filing instructions can change, and the correct process depends on the notice. Check current, notice-specific portal guidance.
- Failing to keep filing proof: Save a copy of the reply and any acknowledgement or receipt provided by the portal for your records.
- Confusing a reply with payment or appeal: Confirm the action required; completing one process may not complete another.
When to get professional help
Consider consulting a qualified GST practitioner or tax professional if the notice raises complex facts, the records do not reconcile, or you are unsure about the legal consequences or appropriate response. The correct filing steps and deadline depend on the specific notice, so professional guidance may help when those details are unclear.
