To factory-reset Pixel Buds Pro, Pixel Buds Pro 2, or Pixel Buds 2a, first remove them from your device’s Bluetooth list. Then connect the charging case to power, place both earbuds inside, leave the lid open, and hold the button on the back of the case for 30 seconds. When the status light stops bouncing and turns off, release the button. Blinking orange and white indicates the reset is running; bouncing white means the earbuds are ready to pair again.
Factory-reset Pixel Buds Pro, Pro 2, or 2a
- Open Bluetooth settings on the phone, tablet, or computer previously connected to the earbuds. Select Google Pixel Buds and choose Forget or Remove.
- Connect the charging case to power with a USB-C cable.
- Place both earbuds correctly in the case and leave the lid open.
- Press and hold the pairing button on the back of the case for 30 seconds. Release it when the earbud status light stops bouncing and turns off.
- Wait for the status light to blink orange and white, indicating that the reset is in progress. When it bounces white again, the reset is complete and the earbuds are ready to pair.
Google notes that the reset will not begin if the earbuds are not seated correctly. Resetting clears settings stored on the buds and case, including the device name and feature preferences.
Pair the earbuds again
- Keep both earbuds in the open case and make sure Bluetooth is enabled on the device you want to connect.
- Hold the case’s pairing button for 3 seconds. A bouncing white light indicates pairing mode.
- Choose the setup route for your device:
- Android phone: Tap the Pixel Buds setup notification and follow the prompts. If no notification appears, open Bluetooth settings, find the buds, and add them as a new device. Google’s Quick Start Guide describes phone setup for Android 6 or later.
- Computer: Open the computer’s Bluetooth settings and select Google Buds to connect.
Read the status lights
| Light pattern | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Bouncing white | Pairing mode; after a reset, the earbuds are ready to pair. |
| Blinking orange and white | Factory reset in progress. |
| Fast blinking orange | Pairing or factory-reset failure on Pixel Buds Pro 2 and Pixel Buds 2a. |
If the reset does not start, reseat both earbuds and confirm that the case is connected to power. To check whether an earbud is responding and charging, insert it into the case and watch the status light: Google says it blinks when an earbud is inserted, with orange indicating charging and white indicating a full charge.
Reset previously owned Pro 2 or 2a earbuds
Google requires a reset to transfer ownership of previously owned or refurbished Pixel Buds Pro 2 and Pixel Buds 2a and enable Find Hub tracking. The reset also resets the buds’ ability to be located with Find Hub. After setting them up again, add them to Find Hub during Fast Pair or through the Pixel Buds app or device settings. If Find when disconnected is missing, Google’s guidance is to reset the earbuds and set them up again through Fast Pair.
