To request a refund, sign in to the Google Account that made the purchase, open Google Play’s order history, select the order, and choose Report a problem. Google reviews requests individually, and approval is not guaranteed.
Request a refund through Google Play
- Sign in to the Google Account used for the purchase.
- On the Google Play website, open your profile menu and go to Payments & subscriptions → Budget & order history.
- Find the order and select Report a problem.
- Choose the reason that best fits, explain that you are requesting a refund, complete the form, and submit it. You can also use Google’s refund request workflow.
Google says a decision usually arrives within one day, though it can take up to four days. Submitting the same request repeatedly will not speed up the decision. See Google’s refund request instructions.
Which refund route applies to your purchase?
Refund rules depend on the purchase type, how long ago it was made, and your location. Google says, “Google doesn’t give refunds for most Google Play purchases.” A request is not a promise of approval. Review Google’s app, game, and in-app purchase refund policies and its broader refund policy guidance.
Apps, games, and in-app purchases
For these purchases, you may be able to request a refund from Google within 48 hours; eligibility depends on the purchase details. After 48 hours, Google directs you to contact the app developer to troubleshoot and ask about a refund under the developer’s policy and applicable law. Developers are generally the right support contact when an app was not delivered or does not work as expected.

A paid app may be eligible for a refund shortly after its first purchase. If the refund is granted, the app is uninstalled. Google allows an app or game to be returned only once; buying it again removes that option. If a transaction included several items, Google says the whole purchase must be refunded rather than only selected items.
Books, subscriptions, and other purchase types
Google has separate rules for categories such as Books, gifts, Play balance, TV, and subscriptions. Do not assume the app-refund rules apply to them; check the policy for the specific product category. Hardware bought from Google Store uses the Google Store returns process, not the Google Play purchase flow.

Purchases in the EEA or UK
If you are in the EEA or UK and the purchase was made on or after March 28, 2018, consult Google’s region-specific refund guidance. It describes remedies for digital purchases that are faulty or do not match their Play description, with distinct rules for digital content and digital services. Those rules should not be applied globally.
If you cannot find the order
Check whether you made the purchase using another Google Account, then sign in to that account and review its order history. The refund request must be made from the account that placed the order.

Accidental family purchase or unauthorized charge?
A friend or family member made the purchase
If someone you know accidentally bought something using your account, use the ordinary refund route and explain what happened. Do not report a known family purchase as unauthorized.
You do not recognize the charge
If neither you nor anyone you know made the purchase, report it to Google as an unauthorized charge within 120 days of the transaction. Google’s refund policy guidance covers this reporting route.

Check a refund after approval
An approved refund goes back to the original payment method. The time for the money to appear depends on that method; Google’s published estimates are examples, not guarantees, and can vary by country and provider.

For other payment methods or a late credit, check Google’s refund timeline guidance and refund status. If Google Pay shows Refunded, look for the credit on the original payment method. Cancelled means the order was never charged.
