You can request a safe, less visible drop-off spot or choose an eligible pickup or hold option, but those controls change where or how a parcel is delivered—not necessarily whether a photo is taken. For a photo-free delivery specifically, identify the carrier and ask about the exact shipment.
How do I request a delivery without a doorstep photo?
- Identify the last-mile carrier. Check the order page, tracking link, shipping notification, or package label. A retailer’s own delivery network and a third-party carrier may have different controls.
- Open the order’s delivery instructions or the carrier’s tracking and preference tools. Look for labels such as “delivery instructions,” “Photo-on-Delivery,” or “proof of delivery.”
- Request a safe alternative. If allowed, specify a suitable place out of public view, or select an eligible hold or pickup option. Make sure the driver or pickup location can access it safely.
- Ask about the photo separately. Contact the retailer or carrier through its official support channel and ask whether a no-photo option applies to this shipment. Do not assume that a location instruction disables photo capture.
Keep the tracking number and order details handy. Options can depend on the service, package, destination, and any signature or recipient requirements.
Options by retailer or carrier
Amazon orders
In the order’s delivery details or saved address instructions, specify a clear, safe preferred location. Amazon’s package-theft guidance describes choosing a spot out of view and explains Photo-on-Delivery as visual arrival confirmation: How to protect your Amazon packages from getting stolen. The cited guidance does not document a recipient-facing switch that disables photos, so an instruction such as “no photo” should be treated as a request, not a guarantee. If the photo itself is the concern, ask Amazon Customer Service whether an option applies to your order.
If an Amazon order is marked delivered but you cannot find it, check the delivery information and any available photo or instructions, then follow Amazon’s guidance for the order: Find a Missing Package that Shows as Delivered.

FedEx
Use tracking or FedEx Delivery Manager to see which preferences are available for the shipment. FedEx describes specific leave-location requests and delivery-photo notifications for U.S. Delivery Manager users. Its photo information covers residential deliveries in the U.S. and Canada; the available controls are not necessarily the same in both countries: FedEx Picture Proof of Delivery.
If safe delivery is not possible or an eligible recipient is unavailable, FedEx says certain packages may be held or redirected to a FedEx or participating retail location. Eligibility and choices vary by package: What Do I Do if I Missed My Delivery?. These alternatives change delivery or pickup arrangements; the guidance does not say they turn off photos.

UPS
Check the tracking page or UPS My Choice for the specific shipment. UPS says delivery photos may be available in a confirmation email, notifications, tracking, or the My Choice dashboard: UPS Tracking Support.
Some shipments allow digital release without an in-person signature, while adult-signature shipments cannot be released this way; other shipment restrictions may apply. A UPS Access Point pickup may also be available. These options affect release or pickup, not necessarily photo capture: UPS Signature-Required Deliveries.

USPS
USPS proof-of-delivery procedures are not the same as a consumer setting to disable a doorstep photo. For applicable mailpieces, proof of delivery can be requested through USPS Tracking. Check the mail class and tracking details, or contact USPS to ask what handling options are available for that item: What is Proof of Delivery.
Choose between a different drop-off spot and pickup
A preferred location may help keep a parcel less visible, but it does not establish that a carrier will omit a photo. Pickup or hold avoids leaving the parcel at your door, when offered for the shipment, but it may require a trip and could have eligibility or recipient requirements.

- Choose a location request when the carrier permits it and the requested place is secure, accessible, and out of public view.
- Choose hold or pickup when you do not want the package left unattended and the shipment is eligible.
- Check signature requirements before choosing digital release or redirection; an adult-signature or other restriction can rule out an option.
- Ask specifically about photos if avoiding image capture is essential. A carrier’s published location or pickup controls do not by themselves confirm a photo opt-out.
A parcel box can be another possible designated drop location, but check that the carrier can access it and that it fits the package. It is not a documented way to disable photo capture.

Keep the request specific and practical: name the exact permitted location, describe how to reach it if needed, and avoid directing a driver to an unsafe or inaccessible area. For example: “If permitted, leave the parcel inside the covered side entrance, out of view from the street.” This requests placement only; it does not guarantee the carrier will use that spot or omit a photo.

If you need no photo rather than a less-visible delivery, say that plainly when contacting support: “Can this shipment be delivered without Photo-on-Delivery or a doorstep photo? If not, what eligible hold or pickup option is available?” Ask the company handling the actual delivery, since the retailer and carrier may not have the same controls.
