Report the specific post through the platform’s built-in reporting option, choose the closest accurate category—such as election misinformation, manipulated media, deepfakes, or impersonation—and briefly explain the concrete concern. If it contains false voting instructions, also contact the relevant election authority; if it presents an immediate danger, contact local emergency services. AI origin alone does not mean a post breaks a platform’s rules, and a report does not guarantee removal.
What to include in a report
Open the original post and report the post itself when that option is available. Select the category that best matches the conduct: a fabricated polling date may fit election misinformation or voter suppression; a deceptively altered recording may fit manipulated media; and a synthetic depiction falsely presented as a real person may fit deepfake or impersonation rules.
Describe the issue plainly: what the post claims, what appears false or altered, and which election or location it concerns. Include the post link or identifying details if the form allows it. Avoid labeling ordinary political disagreement as misinformation simply because it is political or AI-generated. Report an account too only if its behavior independently appears to violate platform rules.
As a practical personal record, you can retain the post URL, account name, when you saw it, and a short note of the specific claim. This is not a universal platform evidence requirement. Avoid redistributing harmful material just to criticize it; a repost can extend its reach.

Platform policies focus on the type of deception or harm, not simply whether AI was used. YouTube’s manipulated-media rules, X’s authenticity rules, and Meta’s described enforcement approach each depend on context and potential effects; a report asks for review rather than establishing a violation.
When to contact election officials or emergency services
United Kingdom
For false information about election administration—including when, where, or how to vote, or who is eligible—contact the relevant Returning Officer. The UK government’s guidance for candidates and officials says election officials should report deepfake incidents and false administration information to their area’s Returning Officer; candidates may also contact the Returning Officer. Affected candidates and officials should also report details to the platform and their political party. The guidance says to call 999 for immediate danger and to report suspected criminal offences to police promptly. See UK electoral security guidance.

CISA advises reporting suspicious social-media posts or accounts to the platform and election disinformation to state or local election officials. For accurate voting information, rely on trusted sources such as local election officials. The guidance does not provide one national report form for every kind of political misinformation. Other locations
Use the official contact channel for your national or local election authority. Reporting obligations and emergency numbers vary by jurisdiction; UK and US routes are not universal.

What to expect after submitting a report
A report is a request for platform review, not a guarantee that content will be removed or an account suspended. X explicitly says a post report does not automatically suspend an account, and its assessment may be limited when it cannot reliably determine whether media misleads. Facebook may show a decision in Support Inbox and offer another review when available. Follow-up options and categories can vary by platform and app version.
For election logistics, do not rely on a platform decision to correct false instructions: ask the election authority to verify the information. For an immediate threat, use local emergency services rather than waiting for a platform response. UK government guidance also warns that replying to suspected disinformation can inadvertently amplify it; avoid quote-posting or reposting it unless a carefully framed correction is necessary.
