First check whether your name appears on the current electoral roll. Then use the ECI form that matches the problem—or submit a separate grievance if an application or service needs investigation. Keep the application or complaint reference so you can track it and follow up with the right election office. The Election Commission of India (ECI) says you can vote only if your name appears in the Voter List, also known as the Electoral Roll.
Check whether your name is on the electoral roll
Search your details using the ECI Voters’ Services Portal or the Voter Helpline App. ECI also lists calling 1950 as a way to check registration status. An EPIC voter ID card does not, by itself, establish that your name is on the current roll. ECI voter services and its voter FAQ provide the official routes and guidance.
If you are checking close to an election, follow the live instructions for your constituency: the portal may show state-specific processes or special revision services.
Choose the route that matches the problem
A grievance and an electoral-roll form serve different purposes. Submit the relevant form to request a change to the roll; use the complaint service when you need an official to investigate a service or application issue.

Submitting Form 6 offline
ECI says Form 6 can be delivered in person to the ERO/AERO, sent by post, handed to the area BLO, or filed online. It also says Form 6 is available free from ERO/AERO and BLO offices. That guidance is specific to Form 6; check the relevant form instructions or ask your election office about offline submission for other forms or a grievance. ECI Form 6 guidance.
Submit a grievance when an application or service needs attention

Open the ECI Voters’ Services Portal and choose “Register Complaint/Share Suggestion.”

Describe the issue clearly. Include the application or reference number if you already submitted a form, and explain what is wrong or what help you need.

Submit the complaint and save its reference ID. ECI’s National Grievance Service Portal description says the complaint is assigned to the appropriate election official, recorded in your profile, and the reference ID is sent to your registered mobile number and email. It also says you can track the response. ECI National Grievance Service Portal information.

Use the portal’s complaint-status tracking to check for a response. If the matter is not resolved, contact the responsible election official or use an ECI contact route.
ECI says officials must respond within a “specified time period,” but the cited portal description does not give one nationwide deadline. Do not assume a particular number of days for resolution.

1950: ECI lists this as a helpline for voter-registration status and assistance. Number availability or routing may depend on your context; use the ECI portal to confirm the appropriate contact.

1800-11-1950: In a press note dated October 29, 2025, ECI identified this as the National Contact Centre number and said it operated daily from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. The same notice said all 36 State and District-level helplines were activated. These are details from that dated notice, so confirm current hours and local numbers on the ECI website before relying on them. ECI press note, October 29, 2025.

Book a Call with BLO: The ECI portal lists a service to request a call from your Booth Level Officer. Check the portal for current availability and follow its instructions.
The ECI portal also provides application-status tracking and appeal links. The applicable appeal route depends on the issue; check the instructions for your application or ask the relevant ERO/AERO rather than assuming every complaint follows the same route.

Note the submission date and keep copies of the form and supporting documents.

Check the application or complaint status through the official portal.

If you need further help, contact the responsible ERO/AERO or BLO and provide the reference number so the official can identify the case.
