To remove mouth clicks from audio, first decide whether the clicks are isolated or spread throughout the recording. Repair a few clicks by selecting and processing each affected region; for widespread clicks, use a broader pass, then listen carefully for damaged consonants, plosives, or unnatural vocal texture. A mouth-specific repair tool is the most direct option; general click-removal effects can also help, but need listening checks.
Before you remove clicks, check whether they matter in the mix
Listen to the finished mix first. A click that is obvious in a solo voice track may be inaudible once music or other dialogue is present, so repairing every sound can add work without improving the result. Then listen to the voice on its own to locate the clicks that remain distracting. iZotope’s vocal-cleanup tutorial recommends this context-first check.
Choose between targeted repair and a broader pass

For a selected repair, include the click and only enough surrounding audio for the effect to work. Avoid including the consonant immediately before or after it. For broader processing, preview the result across different phrases rather than assuming one setting will suit the whole recording. iZotope’s tutorial notes that broad treatment can remove too much or leave some noises behind.
Use a mouth-click tool conservatively
iZotope RX Mouth De-click is documented as a module and plug-in for detecting and reducing mouth noises such as clicks and lip smacks. The cited RX 6 documentation describes both longer selections and individual clicks; it does not establish current product packaging, pricing, or availability.

Set the detection controls by ear
- Sensitivity: Controls how many clicks are detected. Start low and raise it only enough to catch the unwanted sounds. High sensitivity can affect plosives and damage the original audio.
- Frequency skew: Shifts detection toward different frequencies. The RX 6 documentation says zero or positive values target the middle frequencies for mouth clicks; negative values suit generic vinyl clicks.
- Click widening: Extends the repair around a click’s decay. Widen only as much as needed to address the sound.
Preview what the tool removes and listen to the processed voice in context. If consonants, plosives, or the voice’s natural texture sound weakened, lower sensitivity or narrow the selection. Another pass can sometimes reveal quieter clicks masked by louder ones, but audition each pass rather than applying it automatically. Try general click repair in Adobe Audition
Adobe Audition documents two general-purpose options: Automatic Click Remover and Click/Pop Eliminator. Adobe does not describe these as mouth-specific tools, so use them as alternatives when available in your editor and judge the result by listening. The Audition noise-reduction and restoration documentation says that higher complexity in Automatic Click Remover applies more processing and can degrade audio quality.

Run DeClicker from Diagnostics
- Select the audio you want to repair.
- Open Window > Diagnostics and choose DeClicker.
- Adjust the threshold and complexity, or choose a preset, then scan and repair.
- Listen to the repaired section. Repeat the stage only if clicks remain and the voice still sounds natural.
Adobe describes this workflow, along with the Click/Pop Eliminator, in its guide to the Click/Pop Eliminator and DeClicker effects. Higher processing can affect wanted audio, so check speech rather than relying on the scan result alone.

Check the result in the finished recording
- Listen to the repaired audio in the mix, then solo the voice to catch remaining clicks.
- Check nearby consonants and plosives for softened or missing attacks.
- Listen for changes to the voice’s natural texture, not just whether the click is gone.
- If the repair sounds worse, undo it, reduce processing, or work on a smaller selection.
