To register a .si domain, check the name in Register.si’s lookup, then order it through a registrar listed by the Slovenian .si registry. Before paying, compare the provider’s current registration and renewal prices, account controls, support, and transfer process. Register.si routes domain holders to registrars; it does not publish a complete retail price comparison.

How to register a .si domain

  1. Search the name. Use Register.si to check availability and whether the name is reserved. A name can meet the format rules but still be unavailable or reserved.
  2. Check the format. Register.si allows names from 2 to 63 characters. Names must not start or end with a hyphen, and must not have two consecutive hyphens in the third and fourth positions. The permitted character set includes Latin letters, numerals, hyphens, and specified internationalized characters; consult the registry’s general terms for the full rules.
  3. Choose an authorized provider. Find providers on Register.si’s official registrar list, then confirm that the provider currently offers .si registration and review its order terms.
  4. Submit the order with accurate details. Register through the provider, using holder and contact information that is accurate and an email address you monitor. Register.si says the registrar verifies at least one contact method at registration or renewal, and the holder is responsible for keeping the details current.
  5. Save account and renewal information. Keep your registrar login and renewal date somewhere accessible. Register.si says renewal for one to five years is requested through the registrar before the 30-day quarantine period ends.

How to choose a .si registrar

The official list confirms which providers are authorized, but it is not a ranking or endorsement. Compare providers using their current order pages and support documentation.

What to compare What to check
Authorization and extension Confirm the provider appears on Register.si’s official list and offers the .si extension for the name and term you want.
Full-term cost Compare the initial price with renewal prices, term length, taxes, and any required bundle. The registry’s tariff describes fees charged to registrars, not a complete retail price for domain holders.
Domain controls and transfer Check how to manage DNS and contact details, request an AuthInfo code, and transfer the name to another registrar.
Support and account recovery Review available support channels and instructions for regaining account access and handling renewal reminders.
Optional extras Compare email, hosting, website builders, or security services only if you need them; these are not required by the .si registration rules.

Retail prices and bundles can change. The sources do not establish a current apples-to-apples price comparison or identify a universally best registrar, so check the provider’s terms before checkout rather than treating a registry tariff as your yearly cost.

Can you register a .si domain from outside Slovenia?

SPOT, Slovenia’s government business portal, says a .si domain can be registered with any authorized registrar. The official materials cited here do not establish a specific residence requirement or settle every registrant-eligibility case. Do not assume either that a Slovenian address is required or that registration is unrestricted for every applicant; ask an authorized registrar about your circumstances if eligibility is unclear.

Renewing, transferring, or returning a .si domain

Renewal

Request renewal through your registrar for a term of one to five years. Register.si says the request must be made before the 30-day quarantine period ends. Confirm the date and renewal price in your registrar account.

Transfer to another registrar

Register.si describes a transfer using an AuthInfo code. The holder obtains or sets the code through the current registrar or its online services, then gives it to the new registrar to complete the move. Check both providers’ transfer instructions and account access requirements before starting.

Cancellation or return

Register.si describes a 16-day period after registration in which a domain may be returned only if it remains inactive and has the relevant Add Period status. Once nameserver records have been submitted and the domain is activated, the registry says it cannot be returned. This is not an unconditional refund guarantee; check the registry’s current conditions and the registrar’s own terms.

Keep holder details current

The holder is responsible for accurate, up-to-date registration information. Register.si describes collecting identifying and contact details and says at least one contact method is verified at registration or renewal. A working email is an important communications route, so use one you monitor and update your details through the registrar if your contact information changes. See the registry’s data policies for its information on collection, verification, publication, and disclosure.
