Meta says this clears recommended content across Explore, Reels, and Feed, but recommendations personalize again over time. For ongoing tuning, use feedback on individual recommendations and interact with the topics and accounts you want to see.
How do I reset suggested content on Instagram?
Meta’s published instructions use this route in the Instagram app:
- Open Instagram and tap your profile picture to go to your profile.
- Tap the three-line More options menu.
- Tap Content preferences.
- Choose Reset suggested content.
- Review the information shown, then confirm the reset.
Meta says the reset clears recommendations across Explore, Reels, and Feed. The feature was announced as rolling out on November 19, 2024, so menu wording and availability can differ by account or app version. If you do not see it, check Content preferences again after updating Instagram; the control may not yet be available to your account. Meta’s announcement and instructions
Instagram may offer a chance during the reset flow to review accounts you follow. That is a separate, optional step: the reset itself is not described as unfollowing accounts or deleting account data.

How do I reduce recommendations without resetting everything?
Use the controls attached to individual recommendations when your goal is to adjust particular topics rather than start a broad refresh. Instagram may offer options such as Interested, Show More, or Show Less; the exact controls depend on where the recommendation appears and what the app currently offers.
- Choose a positive feedback option on recommendations you want more of.
- Use Show Less, hide, or snooze options on unwanted recommendations where available.
- Spend time with content and accounts you do want to see; avoid lingering on recommendations you dislike.
These are signals, not guaranteed blocks. Meta says its systems can respond to actions such as watching a recommended video or liking a post, as well as watching briefly and leaving or explicitly choosing Show More or Show Less. Reset or tune recommendations: which should I choose?

Choose the reset if recommendations across several surfaces feel broadly off. Choose per-item controls if the problem is narrower or you want to keep your current recommendations while adjusting them selectively.

A reset is not a permanent feed setting. Meta says recommendations start personalizing again over time based on the content and accounts you interact with. Continued viewing, likes, and other interactions can shape what appears, while explicit feedback can help redirect it.

There is also a difference between personalization and recommendation eligibility. Meta’s Recommendation Guidelines describe standards that determine whether certain content is eligible to be recommended broadly; content can be allowed on Instagram but not eligible for recommendation.
