For an ESPHome setup using a Hi-Link LD2410-family radar, reduce false triggers by identifying which detection path and distance gate is active, then adjusting that gate’s threshold and checking the result in the room. There is no universal threshold that works for every installation. The steps below apply to ESPHome’s LD2410 component and its documented LD2410, LD2410B, and LD2410C variants; other radar families may use different controls.
First confirm the radar and ESPHome setup
These instructions are for ESPHome’s LD2410 component. Confirm the exact module model before changing settings; controls and troubleshooting advice are not interchangeable across ESP32 radar products.
Before tuning sensitivity, verify the UART connection and configuration. ESPHome specifies no parity and one stop bit, with a default module baud rate of 256000, and recommends using hardware UART pins at that rate. If readings are missing or unstable, resolve the serial setup first rather than treating the problem as a sensitivity issue.
Identify what is triggering presence
Observe the reported target states before changing a threshold. The LD2410 integration exposes separate has_moving_target and has_still_target signals, as well as the combined has_target state. This helps distinguish whether the unwanted presence report follows the moving-detection path, the still-detection path, or both.

Change one relevant setting at a time. If you alter several thresholds or controls together, it becomes harder to tell which change affected the behavior.
Calibrate LD2410 gate thresholds
- Enable engineering mode. Use the LD2410 configuration in ESPHome to turn on engineering mode.
- Watch the gate energy readings. Monitor
gX_move_energyandgX_still_energyfor the gates relevant to the monitored area. The gate number identifies a distance region; use the readings to see which region is active when presence is reported. - Adjust the implicated threshold. The LD2410 supports sensitivity settings by distance gate, so tune the gate associated with the observed event rather than lowering sensitivity everywhere by default.
- Repeat the observation. Check the same area while empty and while occupied, then make another controlled adjustment if needed. Test in the actual installed room; the appropriate setting depends on the installation.
- Turn engineering mode off after calibration.
ESPHome documents this as an iterative process, not a fixed calibration recipe. It does not prescribe a test duration or publish a threshold table that is correct for all rooms.

Separate a lingering presence state from a new trigger
If the sensor continues to report presence after a detection but you do not see a new energy event, check the timeout control separately from sensitivity. ESPHome exposes a timeout setting, and the LD2410 manual describes a delay before the sensor reports the transition from occupied to unoccupied. A state that remains occupied during that delay is not necessarily a fresh detection.
The manual copy cited here is the HLK-LD2410 User Manual v1.02, hosted by a third party rather than a verified Hi-Link manufacturer site. Consult current manufacturer documentation if you need to rely on detailed manual wording or instructions.

Do not apply another radar’s fix to an LD2410
ESPHome documents model-specific controls and warnings for other radar modules. They are useful context only if you own that model:
- LD2420: ESPHome says solid objects and noise outside configured minimum and maximum detection gates can cause false detections or abnormal gate thresholds. This is specific to the LD2420, not an established explanation for LD2410 behavior. See the LD2420 documentation.
- LD6002B: This is a distinct 60 GHz 3D radar integration. ESPHome warns that UART0 pins GPIO1 and GPIO3 on classic ESP32 boards can expose bootloader output that corrupts the module’s state until it is power-cycled. Apply this warning to LD6002B wiring, not generally to LD2410 installations. See the LD6002B documentation.
- Seeed MR24HPC1: Its ESPHome integration has separate sensitivity and motion-trigger accumulation controls, including multi-judgment triggers intended to reduce false alarms. These are not LD2410 settings. See the MR24HPC1 documentation.
When comparing radar options, check the exact model’s available gates or zones, moving and still target reporting, configuration support, and suitability for its mounting and application. The cited documentation does not provide comparable accuracy tests.
