There is no single switch that turns off AI features and recommendations everywhere. Start with the device or app showing the feature, then adjust its AI, suggestions, feed, search, or advertising controls separately. Turning off personalized ads does not, by itself, turn off AI features or all recommendations.
Know which kind of control you need
“AI features,” recommendations, and personalized ads are different settings. A control may apply to one feature, one app, an account, or a device; it may also sync with other devices signed in to the same account.

For the closest fit, identify what you want to change first: AI generation or summaries, app suggestions, feed or search recommendations, personalized ads, or stored activity.
How to reduce Apple Intelligence and Siri suggestions
Adjust individual Apple Intelligence features
Apple documents separate controls for features such as Messages, Mail, and notification summaries; priority notifications; personalized Smart Replies; voicemail suggestions; call context cards; and Journal writing prompts. The available features and controls depend on the device, software, language, and region.

- Open the iPhone’s Settings and look for the Apple Intelligence controls or for the name of the feature you want to change.
- Review the individual feature settings and disable only the functions you do not want. Some controls apply to a particular app or feature rather than switching off every AI-related function.
Apple’s Screen Time controls can restrict categories such as Writing Tools, image creation, and Intelligence Extensions, including third-party extensions such as ChatGPT. This is a way to restrict those categories, not a guarantee that every AI-related function is disabled.
Change Siri Suggestions separately
Siri Suggestions are not the same control as Apple Intelligence. Apple Support says, “Siri Suggestions are on by default for your apps.” Its iPhone guidance describes controls for individual apps and for where suggestions appear, including in apps, on the Home Screen, as app suggestions, and in notifications.

- Open Settings and find Siri Suggestions.
- Turn suggestions off for particular apps, or change the places where suggestions can appear.
- If you do not want Siri personalization to update across devices, review Apple’s iCloud control for Siri personalization.
How to separate Copilot, Windows recommendations, and ads
Review Copilot personalization
Microsoft’s Copilot privacy settings cover personalization and memory. Review those settings in Copilot if the unwanted behavior is within Copilot; changing a Windows advertising preference is a different action.
Review Windows recommendations and advertising
In Windows 11, Microsoft’s Recommendations & offers privacy settings include options such as the advertising ID and Start or search personalization. Use Windows Settings to find that page, then review the options individually. Microsoft states that turning off the advertising ID does not reduce the number of ads shown; it may make them less relevant. It is not a control for turning off Copilot or every Windows recommendation.

What Google’s controls do—and do not—cover
Search personalization
Google’s Search personalization controls can affect which results appear and the order of content blocks. Turning off personalized recommendations does not stop Google from using all information to improve results. For stored activity, Google also provides data and privacy controls to pause or delete activity; those actions are distinct from changing Search personalization.
Personalized ads
Google My Ad Center controls ad personalization. Do not treat an ad preference as a setting for Search features: Google’s documented personalization and ad controls do not establish a general switch to hide AI Overviews or AI Mode for all accounts and regions.

How to approach Meta recommendations
Meta has said that interactions with its generative AI features would inform content and ad recommendations across its platforms. To adjust what appears, review the current feed and ad preferences in the relevant app. The available announcement does not establish current step-by-step menu paths for each app, so use the app’s own current settings rather than assuming a single Meta-wide switch.

Check scope and availability before you stop
- Confirm whether a setting applies to one feature, one app, an account, or the whole device.
- Check whether it syncs across devices signed in to the same account.
- Look for separate controls for AI features, suggestions, ads, and activity; changing one category may leave the others unchanged.
- Expect names and availability to vary with software version, device capability, language, region, and account eligibility. Use the current support guidance for your device or app when a setting is not where expected.
