If your Dragon’s Dogma 2 save is missing, stop playing on the device that may have the wrong copy and check for an intact local or cloud save first. The recovery path depends on your platform: Steam players should resolve sync errors and check the older computer; PS5 players can check PlayStation Plus cloud storage; Xbox Series X|S players should check the save state linked to their Xbox account. Recovery is not guaranteed if every available copy has been deleted, overwritten, or corrupted.
Before you try to recover a save
Protect every possible copy before continuing. If a newer device appears to have lost progress, avoid launching or saving there until you have checked whether another device still holds the better version. A sync or download can replace a copy, so first identify which local or cloud save is most recent.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 uses one save data for both manual saves and autosaves; they do not occupy separate slots. Capcom says autosaves occur when entering a new area or resting at an inn. You can save manually through Pause Menu > System > Save, except while fighting an enemy. Wait for the save icon to disappear before exiting the game or powering off. Capcom’s Steam FAQ and its platform FAQs warn against interrupting a save.
Capcom says local backups made manually for the game are not guaranteed to work, and Steam Support says it cannot recover lost saves or resolve cloud conflicts. If no intact local or cloud copy remains, the official guidance does not establish a dependable recovery method.

Choose the recovery path for your platform

Recover or protect a Steam save
If Steam reports that the game could not sync
- Do not select “Play Game” just to bypass the warning. Steam warns that launching despite a sync error can create a conflict between local and cloud files and cause lost progress.
- Resolve the sync problem before launching. Check the network connection and allow Steam to synchronize. Steam says offline play does not sync until you return online.
- If progress is missing on a newer computer, check the older one first. Its local save may be newer than the cloud copy. If that copy synchronizes successfully from the old computer, it should appear on the newer computer the next time the game launches.
- Compare candidate copies before continuing. Avoid saving over the version that may contain more progress while you determine which copy is current.
Steam lists Dragon’s Dogma 2 as supporting Steam Cloud on its game support page. Capcom also identifies Steam Cloud as the backup route in its Steam FAQ. Neither source guarantees that a backup exists or that it is newer than the local save. The FAQ does not give an approved manual file-replacement procedure, so manual file swapping should not be treated as Capcom-supported recovery.
If Steam already loaded the wrong version
Stop before making further saves. Check the other computer for a newer local copy and inspect Steam’s sync state before launching again. Steam says it cannot restore lost files or resolve cloud conflicts once the wrong copy has displaced the needed data.

Check cloud saves on PS5
Capcom identifies PlayStation Plus cloud storage as the PS5 save backup method and says a PlayStation Plus membership is required to access it. Before downloading a cloud save or replacing local data, check whether an upload exists and whether it is the copy you want to keep. Capcom’s PS5 FAQ does not guarantee that cloud storage contains an earlier, usable version or describe a recovery procedure for a save that has been deleted or corrupted.
Check saves on Xbox Series X|S
Capcom says Xbox saves may be backed up to Xbox service cloud servers and directs players to the console maker for details. Check that you are using the account associated with the save and review the available local and cloud state before continuing in a way that could replace the better copy. Capcom’s Xbox FAQ does not provide a detailed recovery sequence for an overwritten or corrupted save, so use Xbox support for platform-specific sync guidance.

Fix common save problems
“Load from Last Inn Rest” takes me back too far
“Last Inn Rest” means the last time the Arisen rested at an inn or dwelling. Camping does not update it. If you camped after your last inn rest, loading from Last Inn Rest can return you to an earlier point without indicating that the game has lost a separate campsite save.
The game will not save
- Check whether you are fighting an enemy; Capcom says saving is unavailable during battle.
- For a manual save, open Pause Menu > System > Save.
- Wait until the save icon disappears before exiting or turning off the system.
- Remember that entering a new area and resting at an inn can trigger an autosave, but manual saving and autosaving share the same save data.
Progress changed after moving computers or using a cloud prompt
Treat this as a possible sync-version conflict. On Steam, check the old computer for the latest local progress and resolve sync errors before launching on the newer one. Avoid overwriting candidate copies while you compare them; Steam warns that it cannot restore lost files after the fact.

What if no usable copy remains?
The official guidance reviewed here does not promise recovery after a save has been deleted, overwritten, or corrupted everywhere. Steam Support says it cannot recover lost saves or resolve cloud conflicts, and Capcom cautions that manually created local backups are not guaranteed to operate. Reinstalling the game, buying another copy, or using generic recovery software is not established by these sources as a way to restore Dragon’s Dogma 2 progress.
