Google Calendar does not have a native Windows 10 desktop program that you download and install. The practical way to put it on the desktop is to install calendar.google.com as a web app in Chrome or Microsoft Edge. It opens in its own app-style window and can have a desktop shortcut, Start-menu entry, taskbar icon, and optional automatic startup.
Install Google Calendar as a Chrome app
Chrome is the better choice if you want Google Calendar’s offline mode. Follow these steps:
- Open Google Chrome.
- Go to calendar.google.com.
- Sign in to the Google Account whose calendar you want to use.
- Click the three-dot More button in the upper-right corner.
- Select Cast, save, and share.
- Click Install page as app….
- Follow the prompts to finish the installation.
Google Calendar now opens separately from an ordinary Chrome tab. Close the browser window and search the Windows Start menu for Google Calendar to launch it again.
Create a desktop shortcut
Chrome may create a shortcut automatically. If it does not, create one from Chrome’s app page:

- Open Chrome and enter chrome://apps in the address bar.
- Right-click the Google Calendar app.
- Select Create shortcut.
- Select Desktop.
- Click Create.
A Google Calendar icon should now appear on the Windows 10 desktop.
Pin Google Calendar to the taskbar
- Launch the installed Google Calendar app.
- Find its icon on the Windows taskbar.
- Right-click the icon.
- Select Pin to taskbar.
Start Google Calendar automatically with Windows
If you want Calendar to open when you sign in to Windows:
- Open Chrome.
- Go to chrome://apps.
- Right-click Google Calendar.
- Select Launch at startup.
To stop it starting automatically, return to chrome://apps, right-click Google Calendar, and clear Launch at startup.

Use Microsoft Edge instead
Windows 10 includes Microsoft Edge, and Edge can also install Google Calendar as an app. The exact menu wording varies slightly between Edge versions.

- Visit calendar.google.com and sign in.
- Click Settings and more (…) in the upper-right corner.
- Select Apps and then Install this site as an app.
- Confirm the app name and click Install.
On some Edge versions, the path is Settings and more > More tools > Apps > Install this site as an app.
Add an Edge desktop shortcut or taskbar icon
- Enter edge://apps in Edge’s address bar.
- Find the Google Calendar app.
- Click Details.
- Choose Create Desktop shortcut, Pin to taskbar, or Pin to Start.
You can also enable Auto-start on device login from the same Details screen.

Enable offline Google Calendar in Chrome
Google supports Calendar offline in Chrome. Offline Calendar is not supported in Firefox, Safari, or Microsoft Edge according to Google’s browser-support information.
- Open Google Calendar in Chrome.
- Click Settings in the upper-right corner, then click Settings again.
- Under General, select Offline.
- Turn on Enable offline calendar.
- Click Reload now.
Offline mode can show calendars and events from the last four weeks and future events. It cannot create or edit events, email guests, or access Google Tasks. Clearing Chrome’s cached images and files removes Calendar’s offline data, so you must enable offline mode again afterward.

The installation option may not appear for every page or Chrome configuration. If it is missing, create a normal website shortcut instead:

- Open calendar.google.com in Chrome.
- Click More.
- Select Cast, save, and share.
- Click Create shortcut….
- Confirm the name and click Create.
This creates a shortcut to Google Calendar, but it may open in a normal Chrome tab or window rather than a separate app-style window. For an app-style experience, use Install page as app… when available, or install the site through Edge.
Common problems

Windows 10 reached the end of standard Microsoft support on October 14, 2025, according to Microsoft Support. The Calendar web-app steps can still work, but keeping Windows, Chrome, or Edge updated is important for security and compatibility.

Can I put Google Calendar on the desktop without Chrome?
Yes. Microsoft Edge can install calendar.google.com as an app. Open Calendar in Edge, select Settings and more > Apps > Install this site as an app, then create a desktop shortcut from edge://apps.
Does the Google Calendar desktop app work offline?
Offline Calendar is supported in Chrome after you enable Settings > Settings > General > Offline > Enable offline calendar. Offline mode can display recent and future events, but it cannot create or edit events, email guests, or access Tasks.
Why does Google Calendar open in a browser tab instead of its own window?
You probably created a normal website shortcut instead of installing the page as an app. In Chrome, use More > Cast, save, and share > Install page as app… when that option is available.
How do I remove Google Calendar from the desktop?
Delete the desktop shortcut normally. To remove the installed web app itself, open Chrome’s chrome://apps or Edge’s edge://apps, locate Google Calendar, and use its app-management or uninstall option.
