One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchTo limit Galaxy AI cloud processing, open Settings > Galaxy AI and turn on Process data only on device. This is Samsung’s main built-in control for keeping supported Galaxy AI processing on your phone or tablet. It does not turn off every AI feature, and cloud-dependent functions may lose capabilities. Menu names and available controls vary by model and software version.
Turn on on-device-only processing
-
Open Settings and search for Galaxy AI. Open the Galaxy AI settings. If that entry is missing, check Advanced features or a menu named Awesome Intelligence; labels and locations vary across devices and software. Samsung’s current support instructions use Settings > Galaxy AI. Samsung’s Galaxy AI support page explains that availability and menus differ.
-
Turn on Process data only on device. Samsung describes this as the control for restricting cloud-based processing for Galaxy AI features. An older Samsung-hosted device guide gives the path as Settings > Advanced features > Advanced intelligence, so use Settings search if your menus differ. Current support instructions should take precedence for current US support context.
-
Review the Galaxy AI feature list and switch off individual features you do not want. Samsung also says that some feature controls are in the settings of apps such as Phone, Notes, Camera, Gallery, Samsung Messages, Samsung Health, and SmartThings. Restart the device after disabling features, as Samsung instructs.

What the on-device setting changes
Galaxy AI uses a mixture of on-device and cloud processing, according to Samsung. The exact behavior depends on the feature, device, and software version, so the examples below are not a guarantee for every Galaxy phone or tablet.

| Processing approach | Samsung examples | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| On-device examples | Translation, Gallery Edit Suggestions, time-and-weather ambient wallpapers, and certain Google Messages functions | These are examples Samsung lists as on-device; availability still depends on device and software. |
| Cloud-based examples | Auto format, auto summarize, auto correct, and image editing | Samsung says most other Galaxy AI features require a network connection and use the cloud in some way. Restricting cloud processing can limit their capabilities. |
Some features combine the two approaches. Samsung says Generative Edit can use on-device capabilities and cloud AI for more processing-intensive edits; Generative Edit for Photo Assist requires a network connection and Samsung Account login. Turning on on-device-only processing therefore should not be treated as a promise that every AI function will remain available offline. See Samsung’s explanation of Galaxy AI processing.
Choose between on-device-only and cloud processing
| Choice | Data processing | Feature availability | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Process data only on device | Restricts cloud processing for supported Galaxy AI features. | Some cloud-dependent features may be limited or unavailable. | You prefer to restrict online processing and accept possible feature trade-offs. |
| Allow online processing | Allows features that use Samsung’s servers to process data in the cloud. | Cloud-dependent functions can use server processing; some may also require a network connection or account. | You value access to cloud-dependent capabilities and are comfortable allowing online processing. |
Samsung’s documentation does not provide a quantified comparison of privacy risk or performance between these choices. You can also leave on-device processing enabled while disabling individual features you do not use.

Review app permissions separately
Galaxy AI’s processing control is not the same as Android app permissions. Review Settings > Security and privacy > Privacy dashboard (the precise labels may differ) to see recent permission access and manage app access to items such as location, camera, and microphone. Samsung describes the Permission Usage view as showing recent access. These controls help manage what apps can access; they do not replace the Galaxy AI processing setting. Samsung’s privacy overview describes both AI privacy controls and device privacy features.
Manage personalization with Personal Data Intelligence
If you use personalized features such as Now Brief, review the Personal Data Intelligence setting. Samsung says its Personal Data Engine learns patterns and preferences to support experiences such as Now Brief and natural-language Gallery search, and that many important data elements are processed on-device. Samsung says the Personal Data Engine is limited to Samsung native apps, requires Personal Data Intelligence to be on, and deletes analyzed data when that menu is switched off. These are Samsung’s descriptions of its system, not independent technical verification. Samsung’s privacy explanation also describes Knox Enhanced Encrypted Protection (KEEP), which Samsung says creates secure environments for supported apps and protects features including Smart Suggestions, Now Brief, and Samsung Moments.

What Samsung says about storage and AI training
Samsung’s November 4, 2025 US Newsroom statement says: “No matter what feature or what settings you choose, personal data is never stored long-term or used for AI training — whether processed on-device or on the cloud.” This is Samsung’s stated policy; the cited vendor materials do not independently audit or verify backend practices. Read the statement in Samsung’s November 4, 2025 privacy announcement.

On-device-only processing is not a universal off switch for AI. Samsung says some AI features integrated into the system cannot be disabled, while individual features may have their own controls.
