Roblox says players most commonly lose accounts after sharing login details or completing online surveys. To protect your child, treat passwords, browser cookies, verification codes and backup codes as secrets; sign in only through Roblox’s official website or apps; and avoid suspicious links, downloads and login prompts inside experiences. Roblox’s guidance describes scam methods but does not establish that account theft is increasing “like never before.”
What Roblox account scams try to steal
Scammers may seek more than a password. Roblox warns users not to share passwords, browser cookies, 2-Step Verification (2SV) codes, backup codes, personal details or sensitive information about their computer. A stolen cookie or verification code can help someone get around the protections a password alone provides. Roblox says its employees will not ask for these secrets. Roblox’s account-safety guidance describes these risks.
Roblox Support says the most common way players lose accounts is by sharing login information directly with others or filling out online surveys. That is a qualitative statement from Roblox, not a numerical rate or evidence of a recent increase.
Scams to teach your child to recognize
Free Robux, prizes and membership offers
Promises of free Robux, prizes, membership or a way to “hack” an account can be bait for a fake login page or survey that asks for credentials. Don’t follow the link or enter account details. Roblox says it announces official promotions through its blog, Messages notifications or a banner on its site. Its account-safety advice and Free Robux or Subscription Generators warning explain these lures.

A page can imitate Roblox without being Roblox. Tell your child not to sign in from links sent by unfamiliar users or websites. Instead, open Roblox directly through the official app or type roblox.com into the browser. If a link asks for a password, cookie or code, close it rather than trying to verify whether it looks convincing.

Login prompts inside an experience
Roblox warns that an in-experience login form should be treated as unsafe, even if it looks official. Your child should leave the experience, enter no credentials and report it from the experience’s details page. Use Roblox’s account-safety page for its current guidance.
Exploit and cheat downloads
Do not download software advertised as a cheat, exploit or shortcut to free items. Roblox says many exploit offers are scams that can install keyloggers or phishing software, exposing passwords and other personal information; exploiting can also lead to account deletion. Report exploit links or requests through Roblox. See Roblox’s guidance on cheating and exploiting.

Browser extensions and screen-sharing requests
Roblox says it does not publish official browser extensions. Avoid unfamiliar extensions, especially those that request access to personal information; if considering one, use a known extension store and review its permissions and reviews. Also tell your child not to share a screen showing account settings, personal information or a login screen: another person could use what is visible to obtain login information. Roblox covers both risks in its account-safety guidance.

Use a unique password and verified email
Choose a hard-to-guess Roblox password that is not used for any other account. Reusing passwords puts Roblox at risk if another service suffers a breach. Add and verify an email address so it can support password resets and account assistance; Roblox says a parent’s or guardian’s email may be used for a child where appropriate. A password manager can generate and keep track of unique passwords, as Roblox notes in its password-change banner guidance.
Turn on 2-Step Verification
Roblox’s 2SV feature adds a verification step beyond the password. Roblox requires a verified email to enable it and lists authenticator-app, email and security-key methods; setup and recovery details vary by method. Review the current instructions at Roblox’s 2-Step Verification help page. Never give a code or backup code to another person, even if they claim they need it to help.

Consider Enhanced Protection if its requirements fit
Roblox describes Enhanced Protection as phishing-resistant account security using passkeys or supported hardware security keys. It requires a verified email and a secondary identity-verification method. Because losing passkeys can make recovery harder, understand the recovery requirements before enabling it and keep recovery information safe. Feature requirements and supported devices may vary; consult Roblox’s Enhanced Protection instructions. Roblox’s 2SV instructions also name YubiKey 5 for security-key setup, but buying a hardware key is not necessary for every user.
Log out on shared devices
When your child plays on a shared computer, have them log out of Roblox afterward. This reduces the chance that the next person using the device can access an account left signed in.

What to do if your child entered a password or code
- Change the Roblox password immediately. Use a new, strong password that has never been used on another service. If Roblox displays a banner asking for a password change, follow its instructions; the banner may appear after suspicious activity or when Roblox detects a password may have been stolen elsewhere. See Roblox’s password-change guidance.
- Secure the email account associated with Roblox. If your child reused the exposed password there or elsewhere, change it on those services too, using a different password for each. Do not share any new verification or backup codes.
- Review Roblox security settings. Check the verified email, 2SV methods and other account details, and remove anything you do not recognize. If your child can no longer access the account, use Roblox’s official account-recovery process linked from its account-safety guidance.
- Report the scam or suspicious content to Roblox. Report the user, experience or exploit link through Roblox’s reporting routes. Do not trust people offering unofficial account recovery or asking for credentials, cookies or codes.
How to talk about scams without blaming your child
Scams are designed to look appealing or urgent, and children may be tempted by free items or help from someone they meet in a game. Make the rule simple: no one should need your child’s password, cookie, 2SV code or backup code, and Roblox sign-in belongs only on Roblox’s official site or app. Encourage your child to tell you promptly if they clicked a suspicious link or entered information; a quick, calm response makes it easier to secure the account.
