Protect satellite communications from jamming with layered resilience: ask your provider about frequency agility, anti-jam antennas, interference detection and redundant paths, while maintaining a tested alternate communications plan. Most link-level protections are managed by the provider; customer monitoring, incident reporting and continuity planning remain essential. No general commercial service or terminal should be assumed to be “jam-proof.”
What satellite jamming is—and what it is not
Jamming is an availability attack against radio-frequency communications. It can disrupt a link between a satellite and ground infrastructure, leaving a service slow or unavailable. It is different from eavesdropping, spoofing, or compromising commands or network systems, though these problems can overlap and may look similar to users.
A disruption can also come from unintentional nearby radio interference or equipment failure. Do not diagnose the cause from an outage alone. Record what happened and work with the satellite operator or qualified radio-frequency (RF) personnel.
Ask your provider what protections apply to your service
Many effective anti-jamming controls operate at the link, network, or provider level. The Australian Signals Directorate’s Australian Cyber Security Centre (ASD’s ACSC), in guidance co-authored with the Australian Space Agency, Canadian Centre for Cyber Security, NSA, and New Zealand NCSC, recommends asking providers about measures such as frequency agility, anti-jamming controls, detection, and response. The guidance is focused on low Earth orbit (LEO) SATCOM; it says its principles may be broadly relevant, but availability depends on the orbit, service, and terminal. Read the ASD’s ACSC guidance.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Frequency response: Does the service support frequency hopping, agility, frequency diversity, or adaptive modulation? How quickly can it change frequency, and who initiates the change?
- Antennas and signal processing: Does the terminal use anti-jam antenna technology, beamforming, or nulling to manage interference? Which capabilities are supported by the contracted terminal and service?
- Power controls: Are uplink or downlink power-control mechanisms available, and under what conditions are they used?
- Redundancy: Are there redundant communication paths or diverse frequency bands? Which parts of the service remain available during an outage?
- Detection and response: What can the provider detect, what alerts reach the customer, how should an incident be reported, and what are the escalation and restoration procedures?
- Security around command links: How are command links encrypted and authenticated, and how does the provider handle suspected unauthorized access?
- Customer obligations: What must you configure or procure, what equipment is required, and what continuity or service-level commitments are documented?
Ask which controls apply to your specific service rather than relying on a general feature list. The cited guidance does not establish that every provider offers every control.
Monitor and respond to suspected interference
Monitoring can help distinguish a local equipment problem from a broader service disruption and give the operator useful incident details. ASD’s ACSC says: “Continuous monitoring and anomaly detection of LEO SATCOM communication links are vital for promptly identifying signal disruptions, spoofing attempts, or unauthorised access.”

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Record the event: Note the time, location, affected terminals and services, duration, observed symptoms, and any provider notices. Preserve relevant logs and incident records.
- Check for local causes: Note recent equipment changes or nearby wireless equipment that might be causing unintended interference. Avoid changing licensed or provider-managed radio settings without authorization.
- Contact the operator: Use the agreed reporting channel and provide your observations. Ask whether the operator has detected an issue and what actions are appropriate.
- Escalate safely: Involve qualified RF technicians for technical diagnosis. A spectrum analyzer may help trained personnel observe and record suspected interference; it does not protect the link.
Public-safety RF guidance from SAFECOM and NCSWIC, with CISA and DHS S&T support, also emphasizes training, reporting, and keeping incident records. It is general interference-response guidance, not a SATCOM engineering standard. See the Radio Frequency Interference Best Practices Guidebook.
Keep a tested alternate communications path
Prepare a Primary, Alternate, Contingency, and Emergency (PACE) communications plan for periods when satellite service is degraded or unavailable. Choose alternatives based on your geography and threat assumptions. A second connection is not meaningfully independent if it relies on the same infrastructure that could fail with the primary path.

Know when filters can—and cannot—help
A compatible antenna filter may help with a narrow problem: localized, unintended interference from nearby wireless devices. The Canadian Centre for Cyber Security recommends filters for this specific case, describing “localized interference from non-malicious (unintentional) ground jamming from other wireless devices.” Read its satellite communications guidance.
A filter is not a general-purpose defense against deliberate jamming. A 2009 NSTAC report hosted by CISA says that filters and physical shielding may reject strong nearby signals but are ineffective against purposeful interference. Because the report is older, that distinction should not be read as a current survey of providers or equipment. Before buying or installing a filter, have the operator or an RF engineer confirm that it is compatible with the terminal and its operating band. Read the NSTAC report.

Protect the systems around the radio link
Anti-jamming measures address RF availability; they do not secure terminals, management systems, or the wider service. Guidance from ASD’s ACSC and the Canadian Centre for Cyber Security recommends complementary controls for those systems:
- Isolate and authenticate management, control, and user planes.
- Minimize unnecessary internet exposure; use secure access, least privilege, and multifactor authentication.
- Apply updates and monitor for anomalies or unauthorized access.
- Use encryption and authentication for command links, and maintain recovery plans.
- Consider ground-system, user, and supply-chain risks as part of the overall service assessment.
Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) compliance is also not proof of resistance to deliberate jamming. ITU-T Recommendation K.157 (approved 13 August 2024 and shown as in force) covers EMC requirements and test methods for satellite terminal equipment; EMC immunity should not be equated with anti-jamming capability. See ITU-T Recommendation K.157.

Compare services using evidence, not “jam-proof” claims
Use a technical review to compare how each candidate service handles frequency changes, spatial interference management, path diversity, detection, incident response, customer responsibilities, and continuity. Ask for the limits of each feature by terminal, band, and service, and distinguish documented capabilities from marketing language. The available sources do not provide a like-for-like performance test or ranking of named commercial providers.
Do not treat an RF spectrum analyzer as a protective device or an inexpensive accessory as a way to make a link resistant to purposeful interference. These are technical matters for the operator and qualified specialists. The NSA’s 24 March 2026 announcement describes the joint LEO SATCOM guidance.
